New Book: Motorcycling in the 1970's
« on: October 15, 2014, 11:12:30 AM »
Everyone,

A month or so ago, I was approached by Richard Skelton to see if I was interested in reviewing a 5 volume e-book series he has written about motorcycling in England during the 1970s.   It took me longer than I'd like to get around to starting to read these books and I'm not far along yet, but, from what I've read so far, I thought I'd pass along a note about these books.  Richard is a good writer and the subject should be of interest to most of us here.  The links below are for the Kindle Singles sold through Amazon, but, if you read on an iPad or a Nook, you can find this series wherever books are sold for those devices.

The first book is a general history of motorcycling in Britain from 1887 until 1969.  Books 2, 3, and 4 go in-depth into the bikes and motorcycling trends throughout the decade of the 1970's.  The author covers the rise of the Japanese motorcycle industry and the concurrent decline of the British.  The impact of the CB750 is covered pretty extensively in the second volume.  In addition to the British and Japanese bikes, the legendary bikes from Italy and Germany of that era are covered.  The final book, titled 'The Magic of Motorcycling', takes a look back at the 1970's motorcycling scene from the perspective of today.

[Full disclosure - I was given free review copies of these books and the links provided are Amazon affiliate links - proceeds benefit the site]
