Thought I'd crack open another thread to chronicle my misadventures fixing this machine up.

Hopefully get it down to the workspace this weekend and setup to do some work.

It's SUBSTANTIALLY rougher than the previous machine at the beginning but it comes with a GL1000 front end and aluminum rims, the frame's been cut to allow taking the top end off already (don't know how good that actually is) and the PO intimated it may have an 836 kit in it.

We'll see - it'll have to come apart one way or another  ;D

The GL is simply superior. Aluminum rims reduce weight. And you got a frame kit that will reduce knuckle busting later. Great mods to start with.

On the bright side it did shift smoothly up to the point I had to push it home

So got my space built and the bike torn down - inside the jugs... 66.6mm pistons.

Quick search here comes back as a Henry Abe 900cc kit - flip side of that is the oil ring on number one was shattered.

Just don't throw a noose about the steering head and fling it off the roof... Even when Damien fights you along the way  ;)

Back then they were looked on as your KMart accessory line..

They never really marketed their stuff on the retail level that I remember.. but would use distributors that pedaled their wares under their names .. For instance .. if you bought a breadbox that was listed in a place like Drag Specialties.. you'd get a box that said Henry Abe ... made in Japan on it .. with sticker that had the DS logo and DS's part number on it...

Some places would sell a big bore kit that came in a Henry Abe box, with the suppliers part number on it ... with Hainst Pistons inside ... Thats where all the Hainst piston sets came from
