« on: October 30, 2014, 10:09:49 AM »
I know... they're all sh1t. But does anyone have an opinion on which brands are marginally better than the rest?

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. the "nameless" engines are worst.
.lifan are best.
.problem vith engines..is bad casting(thin porøs aluminium..vho korodes and breake..they are very thin in castings...hardning of steel parts..some parts are too hard..breake thin pieces of gera drum..etc..other are to soft..valve bends easy..and elektric parts are hell..specily if it gets rain..the thin vire gets korodet and brake..kontakts dont vork..

if you are lucky..it can ran fine for some years..specily if you care ekstra..and let it stay inddore dry..vhen not used..

i vill pay doubbel and get a used japanese  instead..

evt if you can bay some defekt chinese..and put them together..you can get a driver for nothing..but some vork if you are a mecanic trained..but be shure the engines are the same type
i kan not speak english/but trying!!

Thanks for the tips. This if for an upcoming low-dollar "how far can you go" challenge, so I really just need it to hold together for 24 hours.

Strynboen is right. Skyteam is also an OK brand and maybe you can fimd a Sachs Madass in the states?  They are ok too.

yes, better to get a japanese one. even an old honda. at +/- 40 years old they're still more reliable than the average chinese stuff if looked after.

my 1979 ss50 still runs better and needs less work than my neighbour's 2011 skyteam dax.
i was temporarily using a lifan engine while rebuilding the original honda one. all components on the honda are stronger, better quality and it also runs a lot smoother. there's no comparison.
