I have been on a sharing economy kick for the last few days after I found out about Uber and airBnB and now I want to know if anyone has every rented out their CB750 or other SOHC4?

I think you would run into an Insurance problem. The other problem is these bikes are not very replaceable. Nice idea, but has a lot of complex liability details to be worked out.

There are other companies are there that do it just not for the CB750.   I would like to be able to go to different parts of the country and have a CB750 waiting for me.  Maybe even go to Europe or Australia and ride an old bike.  How cool would that be!  Don't want to ride alone no problem I'll go with you.

I would only rent to people I trust anyhow like other forum members.  GPS tracking, credit card deposit, proper insurance, and guided tours to start.  Anyone want to tour the Adirondacks or fingerless this summer hit me up.

For me it would be a way to be able to keep my collection way into the future while letting others experience the feeling you get from ridding one of the coolest vintage bikes ever made.  New bikes are more like a car on two wheels IMO.  No feeling or soul, they are too perfect.

A few members from overseas have talked about coming here buying a cb750 and going on tour.  Why not rent one for a fraction of the price.  Who knows instead of sending them overseas via Ebay we can keep them in the USA.

I think there is a market there - look at Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos where they are renting old Urals and other old bikes...India renting Enfields etc etc...always a market for rentals. I have met many guys from the West coast who want to ride here but dont have a bike...and if I am going to the West Coast  I always want to ride so it works both ways...and plenty inbetween!

I think there is a market there - look at Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos where they are renting old Urals and other old bikes...India renting Enfields etc etc...always a market for rentals. I have met many guys from the West coast who want to ride here but dont have a bike...and if I am going to the West Coast  I always want to ride so it works both ways...and plenty inbetween!

Hmmm.  Got the gears grinding again.  Shoot me that PM.   People don't realize how cool NY is in the summer.  There is so much good ridding especially in the Finger Lakes area.

I would like to have a CB750 so I can ride up and down the California coast.  When I visited my Dad and his wife in Phoenix AZ all I wanted to do was ride my CB750 around the grand canyon.  I ended up renting a car, the whole time wishing it was my CB750. 

I think at one point I got so lost in imagining I was ridding a CB750 I found myself making the shifting sounds and everything.  Nisan Altimas as nice as they are are no CB750s.

Don't think I would ever rent mine out. Not unless I knew the person and their riding habits. You get some aggressive rider on there and you could end up replacing parts. Not worth the hassle or money to me.

 I lent an 836 to a good friend and riding buddy to run to the store from my house one evening and it ended up totaled and wrapped around a tree and he was severely injured.  Lesson learned. Made for a bad situation.

I've thought about this for a number of years..........and talked to a few others.  Then I investigated the bike-rental people in Europe and found they basically sell the bike, some hold a major CC with dedicated funds, and settle any damages upon return.  Others supply vintage bikes for group tours.  I like the idea of SOHC members only for 'back-round checks'

Chew.........Anytime you want to tour the Great Lakes..........my K3 is ready, and the cafe-style F1 is getting ready.

BTW........when Richard Bacchus from MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS magazine comes to Wisconsin, I provide him a vintage ride. So far its been.......CB750, XS650, CA77, & another CB750 with an 836-kit. Next June it may be my Triumph T100C

There is someone that does this in PA. I have to remember the name and who told me about it but he's got a garage full of vintage bikes that you pay to ride. I believe it is set up as a 3-day excursion where you get to swap out bikes to get a feel for the different ones he has. IIRC there are some pretty cool bikes in the collection.

Not a bad idea; I agree with Andy about wanting to ride in destinations I don't bring my bike to but liability is a beast of a hurdle.

Bikes, though... I don't think it would work well. I sure as hell wouldn't let anyone use mine!

There are no CB750's for rent. FACT.
By the way one of those ride share companies  like UBER just got a passenger killed and two others in the hospital including the driver.
Who will pay? It will be in the courts for years.

I believe Motorcycle Classics magazine did an article about that outfit sometime in the last few years.  There are several other similar resort operations in Europe.

Engines guards at least.  Ok you got my interest with the BMW bike rental place.  I like the idea of a network, but would rather see the money go to individuals vs a company.  The idea of individuals having instant access to becoming micro entrepreneurs is very appealing to me.  If not with renting CB750s then maybe something else.  I would like to travel the country and the world and be able to rent a CB750 though.

I  have wanted to do something similar to airBnb for a long time, but was too broad in scope.  Being a skilled problem spotter is not what made airBnb into a billion dollar company, being a problem solver is.

There are no rich problem spotters, just problem solvers.

If you went to every town on the planet and checked that out thoroughly it would be fact, the reality is that its only your opinion and I'm not really sure why you would be so adamant ?{and wrong} ...

Personally I think this is a great concept with a lot of potential, I often talk to guys at bike shows that make comments like, "never ridden one of those {insert old bike}, but i've always wanted to...You would have to talk to established hire companies to make it all work....  "Old world motor cycle hire, take a trip back in time"....

Thanks for the link it is very helpful.  Looks like he does mostly tours which the direction I would be leaning toward.  Not sure I would be comfortable with a straight up rental to someone who has never ridden a CB750 before.
