Thank you! I wonder if I should find someone to fashion a custom rack....

I'm still super uninspired about what to do with my tank. Right now I'm thinking oem pinlines/design with custom colors. Currently rewiring....

I've done a couple of tanks, not quite stock mind you, but I like them.

Multi color flake

color and steel

color and pinstripe, there's just so many things you could do. Ghost flames, panels , ....
maybe you just need a bunch of different tanks and neutral sidecovers.
Never use old  pin stripes, it lifts. if you use it , get the good stuff, hit it with a hairdryer  so you know it's stuck , then clearcoat.
Just some more ideas

RB. Is that a 650 in a late K frame, or a late K tank on a 650??
Do you know if the late K tank will work on the 650 frame??

Mighost, It's been a while and I've forgotten what I used, the frame is a 500, the tank is late 550,the engine is 81 650,and I'm not remembering if that petcock came with that particular tank, sorry can't be of any help to you....it's been a while.
I do seem to remember trying to fit an earlier model 500 or 550 tank on a 650 , I think it didn't work because of seat issues very offensive looking... Though the gray semi chop is a 550 frame with a 650 tank, I used an aftermarket seat to finish it off and it wasn't offensive.
You know , I have some 650 frames in the shop and some tanks and seats ...give me a bit  and I'll check.

I mean, if you are looking for something like this I could hook you up. Somebody spent some serious time airbrushing all this lacquer paint on my 77 550f. I still cant make up my mind as to leave it when I tear it down for my build or to hang it on the wall. But hey, If you are looking for a rad custom paint scheme I might be able to cut you a deal ;)

Thanks seanbarney.
I'm back. seems the early 500 and k tanks would fit nice on the 650, although, it has twin discharge on the petcock, the location looked decent without a motor in it.

I don't have a K tank in the rafters ...sorry. But somewhere someone mentioned a peanut tank

Yeah, it don't get much uglier than that.

but a Mustang tank with ghost flames might be alright.
Nice custom hellraiser.
sorry about the hyjack.

that is art...a dying skill and style.  I am not crazy about the subject matter though, needs more spaceships, swords, wolves and female NUDITY imo....no way would I paint over that.  If I find an f or 77/78k titled frame, I will make you an off Hellraiser

I totally agree with everything you said there sean hahahaha. If you had a tank and side covers to replace these i would just trade for the sake of keeping the paint alive. Just a thought :)

This is  a great thread  8) keep'em coming  ;)  Have any of you PC'd a tank? & if so would I be able to use maybe 1000-1500 grit wet/dry  and fine sand the PC'd tank and then lacquer clear coat over it? I want to clear-in some decals & realize there's no way I could clear just the decals and polish/blend it so it matches gloss because it's not all lacquer.I PC'd the tank for durability not for looks,I will carry stuff like boxes, etc. on the tank all the time.I hope you all keep this thread going! love it  8)

Ryzart in New Jersey did my Flake Sunrise Orange tank - it's unbelievable in person:

He finished my 350F tank too - that bike is still not done:
It's Flake Matador Red - the tank shot doesn't show it's awesomeness, the parts are a better depiction photographically.

RB. Thanks for the pics, and info.
I actually like the looks of this tank. It gives more of that classic styling flavor.
Now to find one.

It's a Kawasaki colour, but apart from that I would be only guessing. It is a real 'look at me ' colour in the flesh.

Thanks! I'll have to ask my painter, no camera can capture the amount of flake.

These are all fantastic - but just loving this one. I think the metallic flake wins. Black and some other color.... silver or something. I've got the tank sitting next to me on the desk as we speak. Looks like the original (underside) was/is gold. I'd love to do some sort of homage to that but really not into a gold tank. My side covers and black and I'm leaving them alone so whatever I do has to go with that. Still uninspired. Blah.

I went with a subtle change
1984 Honda Elite 150
1998 Yamaha 650
2004 Honda 750 ACE
1975 CB550
1978 CB400A
1978 CB550 now 603cc w/sidecar

Good thread. That 350 is nice, makes me want one - with a 400 mill. What makes the difference is that he kept the tank and side cover badges, the only improvement I could suggest would be to keep the original tank striping, maybe stylized in black to fit the rest of the bike. Too many bikes have the emblem holes filled out and no tank decals - and they looks like what they are - the cheap, easy and quick solution. The early bikes have simple decals, which to my eye look best.

And I'd like to warn against fancy airbrush jobs like that tree motive on the 550. They can be difficult to live with over time, you get tired of them, and what seemed like a good idea at the time ages pretty quickly. In this way a stock color or plain custom color like the 350 is way better. This from personal experience; I had a 750 with custom paint courtesy the PO. It was pretty subdued, no nipples or forked spears trying to make a statement, and yet I grew tired of it after a couple of years and ended up painting it over. I do though wish I still had it.

And while I'm posting, let me <rant>. I have only two black/white photos of that 750 - didn't own a camera in the late seventies - and the wife has buried them somewhere in the attic. So I can't #ยค%&ing find them.</rant>
71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down
