Part number 77200-300-030A CB750K1 seat strap retention
« on: December 21, 2014, 05:00:35 pm »
Hi,
I bought a new Part number 77200-300-030A 750K1 seat a few years ago, genuine Honda part and the chromed screws holding the seat strap had no locking arrangement to prevent them becoming unscrewed. Does anyone out there have a late production part to check if this was the case on the final part before it became discontinued from Honda ? Or did the original part fitted to the bike in 1970/71 have a retainer ( split pin, locking nut, peened over thread?

Cheers ... Ash

Ash...did some checking here. My 69KO with OEM seat has no split pins. My 70KO with Yamiya seat same. I have a new OEM K1 seat and old K1 seat both no pins. My K3 & K4 have the split pins in those strap bolts. If she is backing out I would use some blue Locktite.

Hi Jonnie, Thanks so much  for that information. I have an ongoing  battle with Honda UK because they are banning the sales, in Europe only,  of any part not manufactured by them, which carries the HONDA logo and they have threatened legal action to anyone caught selling them in Europe. This includes Yamiya/PMC seats. I do have a Yamiya seat myself for my K0 and it has a locking nut and the ends of the thread are peened/bruised so that the screw will not totally unfasten. Honda claim that repro parts may be inferior/unsafe but in my view the Yamiya seat addresses the problem of the pillion strap screws coming unfastened and the new K1 seat I bought does not. Can you do me a massive favour & check if your original K1 seat had a lock nut or or any form of distortion to the ends of the threads please?  I am doing this for other members in Europe and the distributors over here of quality reproduction  parts like Yamiya.

I know they can be imported from Yamiya / PMC etc. in  Japan directly but it hikes up the price massively when you add in the taxes, shipping and import duty.

Kind regards  ... Ash

Ash,
I have just picked up a new in box genuine Honda K1 seat today, so it was easy to check. Amazing coincidence!
The part number is 77200-300-030A.
I undid the screw holding the strap without any problem. No clip, lock nut or peening.
No distortion or evidence of a lock nut on either side. Not really enough thread for a lock nut either.

Hope this helps your case.

I am considering buying a Yamiya seat for my 1970 K0. What is the quality like?

Ash...looking at my original K1 seat I do see the threads were bruised to keep the nut from coming off. No pin...

Brilliant replies guys just the ammo I needed. So they did no QC on the later part they sold but ban us from buying properly engineered replicas. Bet that screw is supposed to have damaged/bruised thread ends as a retainer. They probably got the Genuine replacements made without checking that the screws were bruised.

Yamiya and PMC seat quality is superb. The pan pattern is from early sandcast hole pattern though and seat strap clip slightly larger than original but hardly noticeably but cover and quality  really is superb in every way. I am fairly certain that theseat on the  Vic World sandcast in the Honda Japan Museum Hall is a Yamiya one.

Have a great Christmas time ... Ash

Ash I did buy the Yamiya with red foam for my KO that I did in 2007. That seat is superb quality like you say. Very happy with it and so comfortable too.
Merry Christmas!!!

Also if looking for Yamiya seat and you can use the non-red foam seat, then  PMC are another option (pretty sure its exactly the same as the Yamiya part). They also sell K1 style seat covers.
