Anyone Run Heidenau Tires?
« on: December 24, 2014, 05:44:43 AM »
Anyone?
I know some racer friends that love them on smaller bikes.
Thought they might be an interesting change from Avons.

Have any of you run them?  If so what models?

I thought of trying their sidecar tyres, but the sizes offered don't fit my rig.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I have wanted to try them, but always seems they do not have the size I need in the tire that I want, or it's possible sellers are not carrying the full line?
If it works good, it looks good...

The local distributor in Wisconsin provided discounts for the Milwaukee BUILD program (high school kids build race bikes) and we had no issues with them on the race track. The bikes were CB350 twins but others had success with larger bikes. I have not purchased any yet but plan on it.

I have been using them on my GT750 for some years.
They feel good on the road and seem to be pretty good in wet weather (although I do not go out too often in rain as it takes an age to clean the Suzuki).
The rear only lasts about 5000miles (8000kms), but I feel they are worth the money. The front lasts about 12000kms.
Previously have tried K81 and Battleaxes, but prefer the Heidenau on the GT750
NB-The GT750 uses the same size as the CB750.
My Honda F1 has Metzlers and they work well, but when the front goes funny they are terrible. The back lasts between 10 and 12,000kms. The front only gets about the same, not due to wear due bad handling.
I will probably try Heidenau's on the Honda when I next change.

I have the K44 3.25-19 front and the K36 4.00-18 rear on my K1 750, the tyres recommended for this model by Heidenau's site, replacing a Continental 100/90 front and ditto 120/90 rear. The small print on the Heidenau sidewalls says the correct rim widths are 2.15 and 2.50, so the 750's rims at 1.85 and 2.15 are strictly speaking too narrow. The tyres were wider than I expected, like a 90/90 and a 110/90. The good news was that I could fit the front without dismantling the mudguard bolts or deflating the tyre, and the rear was free of the ground when on the center stand - great when you're greasing or adjusting the chain, and neither of which was the case with the tyres I replaced.

Visually the tyres are good quality, the front being a rib pattern and the rear a block, both of which to me look right on this type of bike. So far I've put about 3500 km's on them, mainly commuting to work. The rear seems to lock up easily when braking in the wet, not what I expected. Turning into corners I lack confidence, but when it's leaned over, it's rock steady with neutral steering, neither trying to rise up or fall into the corner, unlike the Continentals I replaced which were downright unpleasant.

I'm happy with the tyres so far but am not ready to give a blank recommendation. The vague feeling I have when entering corners can be down to the rims not having been trued for a looong time, the ding in the front rim, bad front wheel bearings or the slightly bent front forks. It has new tapered steering bearings, bronze swingarm bushings and new collar, plus new Hagon rear shocks (to my defence).
71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down
