Oh boy, tell me its not frame damage...
« on: February 02, 2015, 08:52:31 PM »
So as i was gettin ready to put the swing arm back together i notice the bolt wont go through and align with the other side, see pics. I tried it from bith sides just to see what it looked like and it hits at the same spot each way, low. Wouldn't it hit opposite one another if the frame was tweaked?

Top pic you let it hang down,  so you are below middle, pull it up in that position, tell us where it ends up.

thats really not much misallignment if the frame is freshly painted or powdercoated i would bet its just paint or powder in the hole making it go out of alignment like that. id take a dremel with a sanding drum and clean up the holes so it will go in.

I would check the bolt for straightness first. If it's 'bowed' slightly over the entire length it could still be installed thru the first hole, but not align with the second. Run a straight edge along it at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock to check.

Loosen the rear engine mounting bolts, and make sure you have the spacers for the engine mounts in the correct location. The frame will flex enough to cause misalignment If the bolts are drawn down before installing the swingarm.

There are spacers on the motor mounts? I dont recall taking any out of the bike when in pulled the motor and i was very meticulous when i did. Its all in zip lock bags labeled out. Its a 76 k6. Have a feebay bolt on the way with the zerk fittings on the end. Also a new collar from DSS from the K0 for good grease flow on the collar.

Rotating the bolt will tell you if it's bent. It's not so bad, is the frame spread a little right there? I'd do what it takes to start it and pull it tight. The bolt will pull in the sides and make them line up better.

Good news! Sanded out the powdercoat and all is well with alignment. Thanks for all of the responses. Now just to figure out why the swingarm is so tight :(
