Thanks for the add!

Got the 1981 CB650 as a frame, motor and box of parts! Bough from a sheriff that promised it was running good when disassembled. Frame came painted so this weekend I slapped on the front and rear wheel!

I hope to install the motor this week!

Any pointers for installing the motor would be greatly appreciated! Trying to make a check list of things to check and fluid to fill! :)

Thanks!

I look forward to asking MANY questions along this project as forums can be a HUGE resource and big help!

It is easiest to lay the motor over the fame and install the engine bolts and go from there.

I'm not sure about the 81, but my 82 Nighthawk has a removeable lower part of the frame on the right side that allows for easy removal/installation of the engine. More knowledgeable minds than mine can say for sure about the 81 frame.

It's a little motor and likes having the tits revved off it.

On my '80 CB650 the lower right rail of the frame unbolts. Two bolts through the motor mounts, two bolts roughly behind the brake pedal. It allows removal/installation of the engine with the oil filter in place. I found that laying the engine on its side and lowering the frame over it was pretty effective. I bolted up the left side motor mounts, then stood it up, replaced the rail, and bolted in the right side mounts.

Also, I found it easier if the frame was all alone... no wheels, handlebars, fork, or anything else. I was able to lift the back end to put a wheel on, then used the center stand and a jack under the motor to lift the front end to put the front wheel on.

+1 on this method! '82 and '79 CB650 engines out and in this way. Little bit of a pain but I left the wheels on. Still easier than trying to lift it in all my lonesome.
