Bare wire
« on: March 08, 2015, 09:40:20 am »
I recently purchased a 1972 Honda 500 Four. The throttle cables needed changed and while doing so, I noticed a large wire that was bare on the end seemingly wrapped around one of the screws that hold the switch to the handle bar. I know that cannot be right so my question is, should there be an eyelet on the end and where does it attach?

Thanks in advance!

That's totally bogus PO work, such nightmares are not unusual. No Honda switchpod had any wires connected to the bars via the clamping screws, all the wires go through the bars to the harness. Either live with it if everything works (although the bars are not grounded except through the tree clamps that may be painted or anodized), or figure out what your PO did and figure a way to fix it.

There generally aren't any large wires in there, what color is the insulation?
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

OK, never had the pleasure of working on a 500T. here in Canada Honda couldn't give them away, they were still sitting in showrooms 3 or 4 years old.

I should have looked at it again before posting my question. The wire is soldered with a lot sticking over. I have attached a picture which isn't the best but you can see the frayed wire sticking up. I just cut the excess off so we'll see what happens.

Thanks to all of you for your replies!
