Brat - CeeBee-6-Fiddy - Never Done
« on: March 28, 2015, 12:52:50 AM »
The Brat has emerged...

Big shout out to Liam Butler of Butler's Customs and Race Racers for making the seat. My bike had been with him all week. He is a true garage artist. A true gentleman. He builds sweet rides.

I did not want major chopping done to the frame. So the rear frame loop/hump stayed.

Most cut this off.

The seat mounting brackets have been removed. A new seat base crafted.

That huge tail light is coming off. It looks like the docking bay of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek.

Today tail end has been attacked.

The rear guard fought me the whole way. I drilled a hole in it and the chrome flaked off. I ended using the CL450 rear guard I had lying around. It was trimmed down to remove a rust patch.

You will want to weld in a new cross-member where you cut out what you call the "hump."  That cross-member provides structural rigidity to the rear top of the frame to prevent twist.

Yep the hump stayed for this very reason.

Thats exactly what we wanted when we designed the seat. To hide that hump and make it look like it had been chopped.

Attacked the front end today.

Different headlight ears. So I can lower the headlight. Which should change the lines of the bike.

Got rid of the tacho. Made an idiot light console from a mirror.

Two goes at wiring these lights in. They have such fine wires that they break so easy. I have neutral light. OIl light comes on and stays on. I think the oil light is earthing twice. No I do not have an oil pressure problem. That will do till tomorrow.

Finished lowering the headlight.
Now only have Speedo. Lowered it too.
Made idiot light console.
Cleaned from brakes and new brake fluid.
Fitted black rectangle bar end mirrors.
Still have to make the side-covers.

Looking good - the headlight shift makes a difference, so does having that Honda badge off the lower tree.
What else is on the cards for mods?

If you want to clean up the front end some more, ditch the fuse holder on the top triple tree and replace with blade fuses down by the battery.

Cheers guys. Glad you like what I have done so far.

I still have to finish off making the perforated sheet side-covers.

I had thought of moving the fuse block down around the seat area.

I may get a mini speedo with built in idiot lights and ditch the speedo that's on it at the moment.

I need to find a four into one collector as I want/need to replace the muffler. The baffle instead has come loose and is rattling around. Plus there is this horrible repair that was done to the muffler. Looks like it was welded up then chromes. Now the weld is breaking up and the chrome is splitting away.

The muffler I would like is a Dan Moto as fitted like this photo..

I'd shorten the rear fender if I were you and ditch those engine bars ;)

Engine bars for sure are coming off. They will be replaced with some crash knobs made from skate board wheels.

The rear guard is as short as I can legally go without the authorities defecting the bike and forcing it off the road. Plus a defect notice costs money.

Installing frame sliders is not a bad idea.  However, I don't think that skateboard wheels have the same abrasion resistance of Delrin or sliders with more robust material.  Remember that you want something that can support the force of a 220 kg (485 lb) motorcycle plus its inertia.  I don't think a skateboard will hold up to that abuse.  It will likely tear apart and defeat the purpose.
