Reg/Rect from a 1986 CB350S in a 70's CB350?

I'm wondering if the reg/rect from the 1986 CB350S would work in a 1971 CB350? I know the connections are different but that's easy to fix, I'm just wondering if they actually have a different spec than ones built specifically for the 70's CB350s or are the physically doing the same thing?
Here's a pic of the one for the CB350S

Not sure if that's definitive that it won't work but it seems like it is... Trying to find a solution that isn't $100 for a new reg/rect on the 350.

Go to Sparck Moto and get an RR. $35
http://www.sparckmoto.com/Products
If you haven't been there yet check out the Honda Twins site. Lots of good info there.
