Got this sweet machine for $150......with title!

After removing handsfull of rust from the right cyl, it took a month soaking and twisting on a puller to break it free. Going to try and re-use the pistons with new rings and a hone job.

The PO was in the process of a re-furb?????

Note the rear sprocket on the wrong side!!!!

Hello Brewsky,  A very good deal at $150  8).  If you are looking at restoring it to std. the hard parts to find will be the F & R mudguards and Seats.  Mitaka make very acceptable pistons for road use although you can still source them from Suzuki at a fruity price (GT750 pistons fit too).  They make good cafe' racers, here's a photo of one being converted for racing, all it would need is a set of lights for the road.

That motor was stroked and bored to a little over 1000cc.

We used to race a Titan based sidecar back in the early eighties. (When I had hair)
Won an Aus Dirt Track Title in 1982 I think?
The motor had some very rare TR components.
Can you pick the motors used in the other sidecars?
It's quite a distinguished collection for vintage mc buffs. :)

This one has been on the back burner for a while, but I'm beginning to get the itch.
I think I have most everything, although some parts are pretty rough shape.
My intent was a budget rescue rather than full blown restore, but it's the crank I'm most worried about, as the bottom end had some water in it also.

Hello brewsky,

You can get Rod/big end + shims/crank pin kits from a few sources for around £90 GBP (you'll need 2).  Similarly with main bearings.  I woud use genuine Suzuki crank seals as they are still listed by Suzuki.  One US based crank builder, Bill Bune, has a pretty good reputation for his work.  Pistons are available from Suzuki, Mitaka (cast) or go up market and fit Weisco or Wossner (forged).  A full engine re-build for a T500 can get costly, but I guess that's not unusual for any engine.  The crank in Gary's bike cost him £800 GBP (pork chopped, lightened, all new bearings/rods etc.  Luckily the Suzuki main bearings are very robust so if the have not suffered rust will only need a swap out of crank seals.
