i like the way i sit on my old 750 but i want to buy a new bike
the problem is i like the way i sit ons it was very hard to find a bike that comes close
first of all all the bikes i lookesd at no one makes a bike that sits like the old honda
however, the harley 1200 roadster comes real close with the foot pegs right under the rider
i weas wondering if anyone found a new bike that sits like the old hondas

I think it'd be hard to find a new bike that fits just like an old one. I mean, aside from Harleys, it seems most new bikes are so much lighter than our old relics. My 98 Suoerhawk weighed similar to my 550, and with 450 more cc's displacement and 50 more horsepower! And bodywork too! I think the Bonnies and Scramblers may be to your liking, as was previously mentioned. Something more in the adventure bike arena, like the Buell Ulysses, Suzuki V-Strom or the Ducati Multistrada may fit as well. Other strictly road oriented bikes that you may like could be the Suzuki Bandit or the grandson of the CB750, the Honda Nighthawk 750.

They may not fit just like the old CBs, but they're all upright bikes with pegs basically underneath you. Definitely not foward controls.

i looked at the triumphs and although i like the way they look, they have less horsepower than my 750
the problem is i don't want a crotch rocket or a old mans harley

I'd bet that the Triumphs weigh less than the CB750 too, balancing out the increased hp of the 750. BUT, although I've only done some light reading on the subject, it appears you can get 10 horsepower or more by a simple airbox and exhaust change on the Bonnies.

Definitely give the other bikes I mentioned a look. They're not sportbikes and they're not cruisers... just good performing bikes where you sit up straight.

the new bonnies weight in at about 450 dry; don't know how that compares to the 750. the t100 gets you a few extra horses and, you're right, the air box and silencer are quite restrictive with brit noise/air pollution controls.

I just checked the specs on a k5 or k6... dry weight for a CB750 was 479 pounds.

Gordon, do you have a W? The Triumph Triumph should have made. With lower bars, one of the all time best bikes. Highly recommend it. Better than the Bonnie, too. OK, maybe just one picture-

Kawasaki retro looking bike, launched 1999-ish. Picture above. Met with less acclaim than it should have because Triumph launched their new Bonneville a couple of years later. Now it has been quietly dropped from the Kawasaki catalogue. Pity, because it was a stonking bike.

Victory, baby that all I can say. Lots of power, and it confuses the HD guy when you pull up. Corners, better than most cruisers. Go ride one and you will see.

Of all the V-twins...I agree with Tom. I had the pleasure of being able to 'demo' the fleet when I worked at the dealer earlier this year, and got to put about 1000km on a Hammer, Kingpin and 8-Ball. The Hammer does it for me. Who needs loud pipes to show off your masculinity when you have a 250 section rear tyre? AND it goes around corners. Woohoo.

not a bad looking bike but the horsepower is less than my 750 and the weight is about the same
perhaps a test drive is in order

Nope, no W here. One of the guys that goes to the 1st Thursday gatherings rides a W650. Pretty much a new version of the UJM, I like it!

30 pounds is not "about the same". That's a huge weight difference. Also keep in mind that twins have a different power delivery than fours. Definitely don't eliminate it from the running until you give one a test ride.

Plus, as was stated before, it's not hard to get a good 10 horsepower more from just a few simple changes.

just read an article last night on the new bonnie T100. cruiser world or somesuch mag. not one i usually pick up, but since it had the bonnie on the cover, i had to check it out.

basic jist of it was that "though this bike does nothing better than any other, they've found a way to get it right." the guy was a self-professed big iron cruiser, but just loved the feel of it. other quotes throughout like "if you read the stats they'll probably produce little more than a yawn, but that means you're missing the point." which is what i felt the first time i saw it. the stats are far from impressive, but the bike is absolutely beautiful. the only thing on the market right now that looks like what i think of when someone says "motorcycle."*

* not saying i don't like other offerings, just that everyone has a certain type of bike in their head and this is what's in mine.

i tried, but there was no address bar to copy from....weird monitor too, it was really thin and floppy and when you wanted to read more, instead of clicking "next" you flipped to the next "monitor" physically. they must be cheap though cause this place had a million of them....they all seemed to be frozen up though and i couldn't reboot.
