Can I ask about a source for miscellaneous videos on bench syncing, etc.?

Thanks for the reply and I found those also, but none were specifically the cb550 setup with slides. I guess I'll just keep looking. I am using the manuals provided, but the one manual which is complete have pics of the carb that are unreadable while the other manual has perfect pictures but is missing the page with the slide adjustment photo. I think I've got as handle on it.

Okay, I bench synced the carbs by adjusting the slide height as measured from the choke side. I used a 1/8" drill bit and I made my #1 carb the master (the carb with the choke lever). I did not separate the carbs. I can always do it later if it isn't perfect.
I'm tempted to put an aftermarket air filter on it, but I think at this point in my knowldge and experience level, messing with any air/exhaust alterations is not advisable. The one upgrade I'd like to make is over to electronic ignition. Any thoughts on that?

And adding that is easy after I've got it together. Thanks, great advice.

Thanks to all. I followed all your advice (except separating the carbs) and she's running great! Now I just need to detail it, and I can get on the road.

you just tilt it in its mounting up or down until the beam hits the ground where you want it.

or if you want to be more precise, something along these lines:

Manual for CB750 says center of light should be 50m away on a flat surface.

It should not be necessary to separate the carbs. You can strip them and clean them without separating them.

@ Irutt...."Then fully strip the carbs..." = Just so I understand.....separate all the carbs?

1) How many turns on the initial air/fuel screw?
2) Idle speed rpm?

Don't ever think of separating the carbs and avoid 'extra' inline fuel filters. A good petcockfilter is all what it takes and if it's not there, restore it. I've seen enough misery with these extra filters. Some are lucky, but many experience intermittent problems and it's exactly that 'intermittent' occurence of problems that can drive you insane. Such a filter may work for weeks and then all of a sudden it causes problems but because it has worked flawlessly for weeks you will not expect that filter to be the cause. It helps when fuel lines are cut to the original length. Sometimes (not always) the Parts List gives a clue.  For a CB 550K, K1, K2 standard length for the two fuel lines is 18 and 30 cm (old style fuel cock) or 17 and 28 (new style fuel cock). Ideal diameter is 5,5 mm. Again, avoid the use of inline fuel filters.

Manual for CB750 says center of light should be 50m away on a flat surface.

This seems like a rather difficult way, low or high beam? Flatlander described the more common way, draw a horizontal line on a wall the same height as the centre of the headlight - high beam should point dead straight parallel to the level ground surface.
