Definitely unsafe at any speed
« on: May 07, 2015, 04:10:45 PM »
Don't have a pic, although it would have been doubly appropriate here.

Riding home a couple days ago, was riding side by side with a mid-90's Ford F-series.  one of those trucks that were converted to lawn care service duty - 2 ton dually or something like that.

Front driver side wheel was cambered in to the point where he was driving on the sidewall.  And this guy was driving, like weaving in and out of traffic, I'm doing close to 70 and he's keeping pace with me easily.  I'm looking down at it nervously, whole time thinking "any second that wheel's flying off".

It was pretty obvious that he busted his ball joint - question is, how long has it been like that? :o

If it goes, he drives  :)

I would be nervous too, if I were you.

It's worse than seeing a car on emergency doughnout doing 80 miles on the interstate.

It was one of the few times I had the strong urge to call the State Patrol.  I know that my State has recently closed down their traffic reporting hotline, so I'm not even sure who I would contact.

Having an 8 bolt hub really doesn't mean squat when the wheel is only held on by a partially sheared lower ball joint.

That's SOP in India. I've never been on the road there that I didn't have my heart in my mouth, as they say.

Funny had the same thing happen, some lawn guy in an old F250 that was probably barely safe for the road was driving like a freakin Mario Andretti! I tried to stay ahead of him but when he started tail-gating me at 75+ I had enough and pulled over. I doubt the guy even had insurance.

This reminds me of the guy with the old pickup hauling the stack of wooden pallets piled and strapped, at
three times the height of the truck.
