Awesome! Is it tuned? If so what's your carb settings?

I'll ask today.  Andrew pulled the plugs after the test drive and he said it is perfect

My mechanic stated the 603cc kit with the 650 cam in my 550 pulls as hard as the 650 in his shop.  The midrange power is definitely more noticeable. It's not a subtle cruiser anymore... Until I put the sidecar back on.

Hanging idle? Wd-40 spray the boots. See if it increases. If it does you have a leak.

I've only been on 2 550s. One had 24k miles and the other was in need of a rebuild,  so my review is very subjective

Just a short update on the build.
I replaced the carbs with some older ones (with 105 mains) because the PD carbs were not able to be tuned to my liking. The older carbs worked great out of the box.
I pulled the plugs after some 20 miles, and they all look good; no soot or white chalk, just some nice tan color
I broke the engine in with the sidecar in place because I let my M1 permit lapse and you don't need a motorcycle license to ride a 3-wheeled vehicle in California.
The bike pulls hard in the midrange and has no flat spots during acceleration.

Only issue I've noticed is it gets very hot during freeway rides. I think it's a combination of the big bore kit and the extra load from the sidecar.
I will add an oil cooler with a built-in thermostat as soon as I can find a location for it as the sidecar mounts are in the way.

I have had a few issues with oil leaks from the tach gear, rocker covers, oil pan, and shifter shaft. Most of those have been resolved except the tach gear (started another thread)

Anyhow, I am really enjoying the extra power and would recommend the upgrade to anyone with a 550.

Unfortunately, I don't have any free access to a dyno, so I'm using my carefully calibrated butt dyno.

If it's getting hot you may want to take the time to increase your jetting and see what the plugs look like and what the AnalDyno says.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

+1
I had similar experience with my bike. I could do richer and solved a heating engine and got better throttle responce too.
EDIT: Check pilot jets by only drive in lower speed, low throttle lift. It is easy to miss lean pilot jet if mostly driving full throttle as the dyno guys usually do.
