OIl leak from behind point cover
« on: May 19, 2015, 06:28:20 AM »
Haven't posted on here in probably over a decade. Been restoring a 1970 KO. Got it back on the road last summer. I've noticed a considerable amount of oil leaking from somewhere behind the points cover. From what I can see from the parts manual, there is a little 6mm o-ring attached to the shaft advancer. Other than that, I don't see any other gaskets or seals?
Thanks in advance,

the oring (6x2.3mm) on the advancer unit shaft can easily be replaced.  double nut the end of the shaft and turn it out.  (counterclockwise)
If that doesnt do it, the only other seal there is on the end of the crank.  the seal itself has a ridge on it.  if this ridge is not seated properly in the case, it can leak.  cases need to be split to properly replace this seal.
here is the part
