Well i installed a motion pro -3 inch clutch cable and it feels so much better. While i was doing this the nuetral safety switch wire going into the left hand control ripped off but I was still able to start the bike with no problems. For the time being i just tucked the wire away.

The clutch feels so much better. Very smooth and easy. I also rerouted the throttle cables and lubed them again and still snap back. I hope to have it looked at tomorrow.

Well the good news is the snap back is fixed. It seems the bars i bought are powder coated and that was causing a lit of friction. Andy here in Milwaukee helped me see this since I was looking everywhere but that. We got it fixed and the stock length cables for throttle work just great now.

The bike feels great. Still a little shaky around 55 so i am going to check tire pressure and also possibly tighten the bolts up on the tree.

Next plan is to fix the front end seals that are leaking. Hope to do that in the next couple of weeks. Possibly change out the headlight mounts as well. Maybe new clutch lever.

But I loved riding it home last night and to work today and can't wait to get on it after work today!

Update : Well i have ordered the m-unit, m button, wiring kit, and M-switch 3 button. Waiting for them to come in. Need to order 1 m-switch 2 button, the m-disc turns signals, possible motogadget speedo, new clutch lever(thinking about the pro-taper..but i am open to suggestions), new push pull throttle tube. Its going to be a busy winter i know that.. Also has anyone relocated the ignition?

You'll like the MotoG stuff. Ditch the stock keyed ignition and use their M-Lock keyless ignition instead

So i started the bike up last night for the first time since putting it away for the winter. Started up pretty good. But now I am noticing some fuel leaking from the bike. Looks like its coming from the carbs. I wonder if i need to replace the rubber hoses going into each one. I have not started tackling anything yet on the bike. Been to cold in the garage and other things have been happening. I am thinking about trying to take the carbs apart and cleaning them my self next month. I may wait on the wiring until the late spring. I have been still gathering parts though and keep wanting more and more parts.

If you replace the rubber hoses between the carbs don't forget to salvage the brass restrictors from inside the accelerator pump crossover tubes.

So much I need to do. I did find a shop here in town that will balance my wheels for me. I have the vibration over 50 mph in the front end. So here is what I am thinking. Get front wheel balanced and trued. New upper for tubes and progressive springs to replace the stock ones. What else am I missing?

As for front end vibration, wheel balance would feel like a "bounce" (up and down vibration), while steering stem bearings would feel more like a side-to-side "wobble". A warped rotor, worn wheel bearings, or sticky caliper might induce vibration as well, but you are on the right track. Inspect/repair/replace/upgrade components one by one as needed until you find the culprit. All of the items mentioned so far are likely due for inspection/service anyway.

Sorry I meant to say Fork Tubes. bad typing.. It is more side to side.. i am planning on doing the all balls tapered bearings for the stem. I might do the wheel bearings as well. Not sure how hard those are to do.

I would do the steering stem bearings first and see if that helps. Wheels bearings would be good insurance...

That seat/cowl is not terribly complicated. I think there was a guy mentioned in a build string recently that charges reasonable rates for metal fabrication for seats and tanks. Cal might remember him.

Well i have started towards getting more parts. Ordered All balls front wheel bearings and tapered stem bearings. Also ordered the JIS screwdriver set. At least its a step in the right direction.

what would you guys recommend for a chain replacement. Mine is pretty saggy and i think it would be smart to change this out.

I'm doing a JT 530 conversion to mine very soon. When I got her running the sprockets didn't look to bad, so I just replaced the chain. The chain is wearing pretty fast with me riding it all the time at mach 2, so I guess the sprockets were worn a bit to much. The 530 set will save you some weight too. The new chains are WAY stronger than what you could get back in the day.

Haven't pick mine up yet and I'm re gearing mine for better Highway running since out here in the southwest most stuff is high speed running. I have seen conversion kits...rear, counter, and chain sold as a package for around $140.00 or so.

so i am thinking about replacing the front springs. Would you guys recommend progressive front springs from bike bandit? is there something else i should go with if i want to lower the bike a little?

I've slid the forks up the tree a little to lower the front end a bit, 1" and have never had an issue. I wouldn't go too much more than that though. Some of the guys may not like this method but its a no cost alternative if you're just looking to lower it some. im running shorty shocks out back too.

Going with a slightly longer shock tends to improve the handling of most 750/550 bikes while not sacrificing stability.

Is the overall height of the bike an issue for you?

Just a small update..

Well I got the wheels off to get them ready to get balanced and the wheel bearings replaced.

Had a fun time getting it on the Jack because of the exhaust on both sides and the side stand. I did notice that the brackets for the center stand are there so thats another thing to get remedied and put back on.

All set on the stand.

Look how dirty my front end is. Was reading the 1978 manual and took the caliper apart and noticed afterwards it was only if I had a F bike that I had to. But at least i know how to do it.

Front wheel off

Rear wheel off.. This gave me a little more problems. I am happy that I have the original tool kit to use the wrenches in there for the rear axle bolt and nut. I broke the cotter pin so that is something i have to replace. Noticed that my chain was also pretty crusty and bone dry.

Here was my shop supervisor last night. She approved

Wheels off and tucked away for a little bit..

I might have some polishing to do...
