Quick PD carb question - throttle return spring
« on: June 01, 2015, 08:03:13 PM »
Sorry for all the simple questions..

As you can see in the picture below there is no tension on the throttle return spring (PD42A carbs so circular spring).

As far as I can tell from my pictures the spring sits in the orientation it's in, hooked on the bracket attached to the throttle shaft on one side and the thin wall on the carb body on the other.

Is this correct? And if so how do I get tension on that spring? Am I supposed to twist the entire shaft around once to essentially preload it?

Thanks!

I always start assembly of PD carbs from carb body #3 and twist that body over shaft once then secure slide holder to shaft (one screw).  Now when yours are already assembled you just need to unscrew everything from shaft and like you said one twist of the shaft should do the trick.

Awesome, thank you. I actually haven't screwed anything into the throttle shaft yet because I suspected I may have to twist it around to get tension there but for some reason it just didn't seem right when I tried it. It's been long enough since I took them apart that I can't remember a thing anymore.  :'( Anyway now I can get this all wrapped up, thanks a lot!
