It seems that if folks know you like bikes, someone is always ready to ask you to buy their POS for a high dollar...that said , the flip side of the coin is the dead for years project bike that they just want gone, Oh come on over an bring the truck,I got a bike I'd like you to have. How can you say NO right? Funny how there is no middle ground. Never had anyone show up to the door with a decent bike at a reasonable price.
So anyways , a guy shows up in the dooryard wants to give me his long lost project. Okay , fire up the truck and bring home a 74 (I think)Yamaha xs 650 with no motor ( just a clutch cover, not much of a project) The only thing I might use would be the blinkers and headlight. The rims, aluminum, I like them ,rims wont swap to honda 550 hubs, the yamaha on only 36 spokes.
Does anyone know if a member has made this swap here before?
I toyed with the idea of just swapping out the forks but they look pretty skinny ( haven't measured the pipes yet so I'm not sure if it would be possible anyways. I think the rear could be done with some new spacers....the axles don't look to be as substantial as the honda axles....perhaps it would be a waste of energy.....In which case , if anyone else has a xs project going and is in need of stock tank (has rust inside), decent wheels, coils, wiring, decent frame (no papers)or whatever, it's here and looking for a home.let me know.
