Hello from Nebraska
« on: June 10, 2015, 11:37:55 AM »
Glad to be here and use the wealth of knowledge!  I'm new to motorcycles and this is my first one.  I was given a project, 1976 CB550F1 from my girlfriend a little over a year ago as a gift to keep me busy and stress free.  It has been great so far with the restoration and help with parts from members here!  This is a great place!  I was wondering also if someone could give me some advice on some damage to one of the fork tubes, as I have the parts to rebuild them.  Will I need to replace the fork tube?

The tube damage appears as if its not really into the base metal just the chrome. Polish that area out carefully with some 400 emery paper. It will be more an esthetic issue than sealing issue but if you replace the seals and fork oil youll be able to watch for leakage then decide for yourself if you want that rechromed or tube replaced.

Thanks for the information.  I will prep to repair it this week or the one following as the last time it was registered was in '94 (37,+++ miles on the clock).  Was also wondering about the wiring of both controls.  I purchased new from VintageCB750.com because mine were totally crumbling inside.  I will post pictures of left and right wiring as not sure, but a couple of them do not coincide.  I will note that it is a 76 CB550F bike and harness and the original right control switch did not have the ON/OFF for the headlight.   The first two photos are the RH Ignition switch and the next two are the LH horn/lighting switch wiring.  Wondered what needed done to rectify the last two photos of green wires as well as the ON/OFF headlamp on the right control.  Thanks in advance.  (part numbers attached)
