Rubber tank holder alternative?
« on: July 02, 2015, 11:42:52 PM »
I hate the rubber tank holder that is stock my 1974 cb750.  It's annoying to have to stretch it over and over again.  Eventually it brakes and I have to replace it.  Just curious if anybody has successfully modified the rubber tank holder for the better.

When it breaks don't change it. Leave it as it is, with the split or crack, and assemble the tank as if it was new,  basically a rubber bushing type block that the tank can rest on. The seat holds it down to a degree unless your bike is cartwheeling end over end down the road, but and at that point it doesn't matter about if the tank is held by that rubber, it's going to break or burn anyways. At least that's how I deal with that same problem on the 400 four ss.

I have not that rubber stretched around my tank now. I will when I know I do not need to left the tank for long.
Rubber will not get cracks that easy. If it does it must be checp aftermarket. I bought a cheap aftermarket battery strap, it cracked off within one year.

I've had my bike for over 20 years and never broke the tank hold down strap despite having the tank on and off countless times.

agree with that .  It is a cushion for the tank and the pressure of the seat holds it down.
