Cb500Four Brake questions.
« on: July 12, 2015, 05:32:55 AM »
Going to a duel disc setup, have all necessary goodies etc. But still have a few questions.

First, I'm thinking about putting the calipers behind the forks...because..."physics?". My understanding is that by putting the extra mass behind the forks might help improve handling/ reduce wobble. The question is, why shouldn't I do this? I'm sure someone has a good reason. Also if makes a differance, I'll be running a Lester wheel.

Second, Now that Slingshot cycles seems to be out of the picture :'(, where are people getting stainless brake lines from? I liked slingshot because their fittings were all stainless as well. Any leads on the best/least expensive place to get lines made? as I said, I'm going to a duel disc setup for my cb500F and want to change to single non-broken lines (no interim light switch) from the MC.

thanks in advance.

Will your MC have a stop switch?

I just did the dual disc on my 550 with trailing calipers. You can read about it in my build thread. Looks great, but I can't tell a difference in handling yet because I haven't been able to ride it much due to a leaking caliper. But, it's what? 1 pound moving back about 12"? I don't see that making a bit of difference. For me it's only for looks. There are many posts about whether or not this is a performance upgrade (either from a better braking standpoint or a handling standpoint) I'd be very surprised if there is any performance gain from doing this mod. On paper...yeah I guess it would help. But in real life I'd think it's very insignificant. But the placebo effect is strong.

And yeah, it sucks that slingshot is down. But I got my lines from rennsportautoparts.com. The guy Raymond is really nice and he'll get you what you need. He's in Canada right over the NY border. Lines seem like they're great quality.

Edit: And I couldn't find any reason for NOT doing it. It's a common mod that many here have done. Only thing is that it gets a little difficult to get the pads to sit perfectly square on the disc. I had to use washers on the right side and shave the fork bosses on the left. I explain that in my build.

Good luck!

Awesome! thanks for the reply. Have a few more questions for you, but I'll read your build thread first.
Cheers buddy!

Cool, glad to help. I actually just added an edit to the post where I explain my method of aligning the caliper to the disc saying that it worked.
