Thanks cal.

I will go through checking the tappet clearances today and re-run a compression test. I have checked the easy ones  :D and they were OK.  I will have to look through the FAQ to learn what is needed for a leak down test.

I took the Seeley out for a run today after going through the tappets and re-setting the ign. timing which was too advanced (revealed with a strobe). I must have got it wrong statically first time around.  Low speed running was much better and the engine was definitely more responsive.  The tappet clatter was much more noticeable, so I think I will have to re-do those to check.  A loose tappet is a happy tappet though but I want to get it right.  What I do realise is I have to get out on a bike much more, my riding was a bit rusty  :-[

The new silencers really give the bike a great sound when using WOT to the red line, and the overrun is almost MotorGP like with much crackling  8) .  If I figure out a way to record it I'll post it  :)

Cheers  Geoff

Hello all,

I have been contacted by the guys from the UK Classic Bike magazine with a request to include my Seeley in a forthcoming feature they will run.  I am presuming it might be about the various bikes (or chassis) with donor engines which were prevalent at the time to match Japanese power with well handling frames.  It would be a great article if they collect a mix of Rickman, Dresda, Bakker, Seeley etc. and feature them together.  I'll let you know how it goes and what likely issue of Classic Bike the article might appear in.

Cheers  Geoff

Definitely!  They should also include a Bimota.  There's a member building a replica right now.

A Bimota in the mix would be awesome.  A bit more advanced in chassis technology than the Seeley but their design led the transition to the the chassis sports bikes and race bikes use today.  I'm beginning to wish the first owner of my Seeley specified a few engine upgrades when he bought the bike if it will be in such company  ;D

LOL  ;D  I do hope the Classic Bike team are doing a multi-bike feature of these gorgeous period specials.  I had a Piper frame kit and used my Z900 as the donor.  Piper also tuned the motor (gas flow, road/track cams).  I had a bike capable of 150mph in 1978.  Piper also sold a 16 valve head for the CB750 if I recall, someone used one to win the UK Pro-stock drag championship.

It seems the feature is confined to my Seeley unless anyone knows of any other period specials that could take part.

A lovely day at Castle Combe race circuit  8) for the North Glos club meeting.  I went to support a couple of chums who compete in the Desmo Due championship.  The Seeley got loads more attention than the race bikes lol.

Hi Thomas,

A smashing day for a ride out.  The engine seems to be steadily improving and I have carb balancing equipment on the way so hopefully it will get even better.

I am considering sending the silencers back for modification, they are really loud  ;D

Hi Geoff, and congratulations on the feature! Will it be available on the 'net for those of us that don't subscribe? If so, please post a link when it becomes available. 8)
Yes, they do get better with regular use after sitting awhile, just like us! ;)

I have a scanner Scott, nod nod wink wink  ;D  If you want the real deal I believe Classic Bike magazine also does a digital version, for a fee of course  :D

+1 on getting out and using your bike to keep it running at it's best.  That also applies to the rider too,  I am slowly learning how the Seeley and the Honda 750 power plant are best used.  I am using much wider and instant throttle openings than I would on a modern power house where I tend to slowly open the go juice.  I don't have skills, or bravery, these days to wack open the throttle on a 100bhp+ machine, getting old  ;D

I had my first go at carb balancing.

It turned out to be a fairly easy process with the appropriate kit.  Of course I lost two of the washers when I first undid the vacuum blanking screws and now have to file a 4mm washer out to 5mm so I get a good seal, but that's about par for me  :D

I have been out in the sunshine with the Classic Bike magazine chappies today doing the photo shoot of the Seeley.  The feature should appear in the October edition (published last week in September).  The weather was glorious and we had a great time, Gez (rider/journo) and Tim (photographer) were both top blokes 8).  My only complaint, Gez wasn't giving it enough welly and their budget for leather'an lycra clad models was already spent for this month ;D.

Here is one of my photos of Tim taking photos lol.  Also link to my flickr.com album page which also has a bit of video.
