70 or 71? I see a drum brake,lots to do to the early ones to make them bullet proof.early pistons can lose their tops ,design changed later.bill

Yep, it's ridiculous but true guys, any "Classic" Brit bikes (and most of them are imported from the US anyway) are stupid prices here, but "well to do" older guys who always wanted one "back in the day" are prepared to pay whatever it takes to get one.

A lightly restored Commando like yours will go for around $15K here. There are so many better bikes around that cost so much less, but that's just the way it is with those old oil distributors, buyers bid with their hearts, not with their heads........... ;D

Yeah Bill, if I had any brains I'd get over to your side of the pond with a fist full of fifties to buy as many old oil leakers as I could afford before they follow the trend here.

I've seen it with CB750's, before Steve "Carpy" Carpenter made fat fours popular again in the US I had a mate in Sweet Home Oregon who was pulling complete bikes out of his neighbours barns for 50 to 100 bucks apiece, but then they became fashionable again, and now they're going for Aussie prices. 

I'm not sure that I'd want one to keep, I'm kind of in love with Japanese reliability, but old BSA's, Triumph's and Norton's were iconic bikes, just the same. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Was just at MidO, one of the largest vintage Motorcyle swap meets in the states.
At least four people there loading up trucks to ship over seas.
They actually effect the prices too!  They pay big money here and sell for huge money where every they get shipped out.

Odd but I see some stuff in Europe that I want to ship to me though!

Yep, I think maybe we should start sending stuff back to it's country of origin to even things up a bit mate, I've got a nice old American Civil War Snider Springfield .58 calibre Carbine that I don't need, so I'd be happy to send it back to the US if someone'd be nice enough to send an old Triumph, BSA or Norton in similar condition my way?

Technically, Oz is at the opposite end of the globe from where those bikes originally came from, but Brit bikes are more at home here as we speak the Queens English, so I think a "Hostage Exchange" would be in order, I'm sure this old guy would love to have some warm American sun on it's woodwork again for the first time in a hundred years or so? ;D

I used to have a bunch of old surplus rifles.  Go into Steyr straight pull rifles from the first world war.
Oldest rifle I ever had was a Lebel 1886 from 1890-1.

Now I mostly shoot .308

Ha ha, no mate, there are plenty of guns here, until recently I had a dozen or so, but as we have to register them and lock 'em in gun safes etc, I couldn't be bothered with all that, so now I've only got the Snider, my Great Great Grandfather's old side by side Hammer gun, and my BSA .22 calibre air rifle that I bought new when I was 15, which was 40 years ago.

We don't have the "Gun Culture" that you have in the US, so when we had a psycho massacre 35 people back in the 90's, the government decided we had too many guns gathering dust in wardrobes that could be dangerous in the wrong hands. They  offered a generous "Buy Back" scheme which took 660,000 guns "off the street", but if you're really keen to own a gun you still can, one of my old Army buddies is a handgun nut and owns 20 handguns, but of course he can't get a "carry" license like you can in some states, and has to keep them in a locked gun safe when not in use.

Not my cup of beer, if I can't wear a stainless steel .44 magnum on my hip to make up for my tiny penis, then I can't see the point? ;D

Meh, a gun is an inanimate object.  Just as likely to rise to your defense as it is to run around at night killing people.
For me when I see those nuts doing crazy things I focus on the nut, not the tool.  And I wish the media here would drum down some of the coverage.  Just gives more nuts that are not getting the proper care bad ideas.

Here in NY there is extremely limited "carry" and a fair bit of registration.

But at the end of the day I have found that many have some very vigorous opinions about firearms and it is better to just keep on doing what I enjoy doing and not worry about the rest.

Sorry Bob, I know you guys are touchy about gun talk, but I wasn't saying anything bad about guns, I was just answering Jag's question referring to gun ownership in Oz.

Back on topic, there are 5 Norton Commando's on eBay Oz at the moment, ranging in price from $7600 to $27,500. I thought the cheapest looked too good to be true, and sure enough, even though there were 14 bids, it hasn't made reserve as yet. No cheap Commando's on this side of the pond, sadly............ ;D

Will have to remember that when it comes time to sell it!

I know from time to time I get a rash of buyers for parts, but assumed that was due to changes in exchange rates.
