Familiar story on SOHC.net, Hauled home a K1 yesterday. Wasn't looking for a bike but a long time football and lacrosse coaching buddy called me and told me to haul this away. I have been hounding him for 10 years, offering to help him get it back on the road but he always refused the offer...now I know why, check out the frame kit!

It has a few period correct bolt on parts from the day. The paint on the tins is incredible. I cleaned them up and they looked like new. The metal flake paint is so thick that I swear the tank weighs 20lbs.

Can any one identify the header? I think it may be an RC.

I don't think this bike is worth restoring as the frame is cut and the front forks are so far gone

I'd put a frame kit on there and put some slightly shorter fork tubes and ride it Dennis Hopper style!

Not a chance! Never considered a frame kit, great idea, the rest of the frame is in better shape than the K1 I restored. Only problem doing this one is I am finishing up a 83 V45 Interceptor and have matching '73 H1 and '73 H2's next in line for restoration.

Looking for more RC goodies, I pulled the valve cover, just a stock cam but the engine turns over and is clean inside. It has 24 000 miles on the clock. The engine has been apart though so there is still hope I could find a big bore kit

Period correct resto is imho the only option.

I have a pair of long tubes you can have cheap - they are like 3-4" over and in goodl shape.

Shorter or stock tubes, and a handlebar change, it will look pretty good.... I like it..pipe does look like an RC except. The can as Bill said.... Can you show a front shot of the pipe.

Frank - is there enough frame there to attach your frame kit? Looks to only be 15mm or so.

I love it! If the frame tubes are cut too short, someone should be able to provide some tubing from a hacked frame. At least enough to accommodate the bolt in frame kit. Maybe someone that recently installed a frame kit? Got the "cut offs" still laying around?

The forks definitely seem too long. I would probably go with shorter fork tubes, but still maybe 2" to 4" over stock.

Let me know if you want to ditch that twisted highway bar!

Back is too short. But a machined plug is easy to make. Slip fit inside the frame tube..about 3/4-1inch long then 1.006 for 1.625 or longer......... Tap them in plug weld and weld around.. That fixes that end.. Looks like you will have to build the middle section if you cant find one... . Its doable..

That is what I want my H1 to look like Stev-o! Canadian $ is so bad the triples are on hold, that's why I found the Interceptor to do while I wait.

I have a 78 750K rolling chassis. The tubes appear to be the same. maybe get 754 to machine some plugs and use donor tubing? The bike is beginning to grow on me and it might be a cool Saturday night cruiser

Will the 78 fork tubes work? The measure out 35mm. The forks are so damaged it looks like the K1 fork tubes must be heavily damaged by thrust wear. If this is the case I will have to swap over the 78 lowers also.

Swap over a front end, buy some cool bars and install front signal lights...

any one have a decent K1 tach, this one looks like this one has hit the pavement too many times!

78 fork will fit but you can't use your old caliber and hanger..
If you want to cut the piece out of the 78......cut oversize then trim to fit.. Then weld the whole thing in completely. You may have to split the triangle, to get lower tubes to line up. Get the whole thing reinstalled before cutting for a frame kit.

Will welding in the patches without plugs be strong enough?

Iwould calm it replacement. Tubing..not patches. If you are going to weld new lower raise in (to cut later). The only way you will get an internal. Sleeves to notch the tubing, then slide the sleeve back before welding. But it won't be a real tight fit... The front joint if using my kit can be simply clamped... To weld the back . You can also use video block or a similar fixture.

I've repaired worse, and I agree with Frank, I think he meant V block but a piece of angle will line it up too. I cut a notch in my frame repair, slid the inside tube into the joint and tig welded it all up.
