cracked air cleaner housing
« on: July 27, 2015, 07:57:29 PM »
hey guys

so i removed my NEW YAMIYA750 air cleaner lower half today to get to my # 2 carb and noticed the lower have has a series of CRACKS in it between the 2 mounting bolts  :(

looks like i may have overtightened it somehow. now i need to figure out how to fix the cracks??? the part / cracks aren't visible on the bike so i was thinking some JB weld for example or some other type of epoxy or plastic welding??? i am not sure what the part is made out of and want to avoid some sort of adverse reaction to the epoxy / putty. anybody had any experience with this type of issue? any thought on how to fix?

thx a lot!

Rough up the plastic on the inside. JB Weld some fender washers in place with the holes lined up. The washers provide the strength and the JB holds the washers in place. You may have to fit the washers by removing some plastic on the inside. I am not sure how that brand is configured inside.

Fender washers have a hole in them. Just line up those holes with the existing  holes in the air cleaner. The washers provide added strength and don't flex. JB and other epoxies don't flex well.

you can make some fine plastic glue.
.take some lego and put it in a glass vith acetone..let it sit for 12 auers..and it vill be melted to do a perfekt mold..i have doing a thain fender..it hold fantastic. use some tape to kontroll the floting matriall.but not all plastic are kompitabel..Yamaha dt plastic parts can not like the lego plastic..it falls of..
