I spoke too soon.  California is now in Fall/Winter.  Daytime temperatures are in the mid 60s!

Very true, but it's still decent weather to ride in.  Plus you never have to put your bikes away for the winter!

Aside from the drought, we are lucky to have year-around riding weather.

Riding and sourcing but alas no visual progress.  I have two simultaneous builds, so these things take some time.

Mike will be finishing up the Stage 2.5 port job on my 650 head pretty soon.  Then I should have the motor buttoned up.

I don't think he's ridden the bike with the brace yet. I think he was referring to the quality of the machining and fitment.

Good news from Mike Rieck.  He's got my head ported and its at the machine shop.  He should be getting it back early next week, and then he can run it on his flow bench for a good "before" and "after" comparison.

I would love to hear MR's impressions of how much work the 650 head needed compared to a 500/550 as well as the flow bench numbers.
If it works good, it looks good...

Don,
Did you ever settle on a carb body?  If so, do the carbs you're going with use the 2-cable system (push/pull) like the 550 carbs do?

I'm asking because I was messing with the 550 this weekend and noticed that the CBR1000 front end I'm using only has a single cable from the throttle.  Was wondering if the carbs you're going with would support that or not because I haven't ruled out doing a 650 head on the 550 bike either.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Ron - Just swap the throttle tube for a push/pull. Simple.

That's a good idea and it's what I'll likely end up doing, but I just wanted to see how those other carbs worked from that perspective.

I made an executive decision today.  Too many irons in the fire, so I decided to prioritize and simplify.

Focus on building the 550/650 hybrid, since the engine is close to completion, it will not require one-off, machined wheels, and I have all of the build components (minus carburetors and shocks) at the ready.  Sell the RC51 this coming Spring (don't ride it enough).  Sell the black 750 (have a couple of buyers in mind) if it makes sense.  Keep the stock 550 for putting around and vintage events, and ride the bejeezus out of the hybrid.

This is my idea also. I want to finish the bike before spring. And I am still collecting engine parts :).... I canceled my car project so I can focus on the bike.

Makes a lot of sense Don.
Especially the part about selling me the 750.  ;D

Don, I always find it tough parting with bikes, but we all get to that point. If I was 30, filthy rich & had time to ride, no back problems, and there were no police to grab my license I'd snatch that RC from you!!

It's a good plan. When bikes aren't ridden crazy #$%* happens to them anyway.
