Clicking from front sprocket in neutral
« on: August 04, 2015, 12:02:18 AM »
I'm getting some clicking from the front sprocket when the bike is in neutral. 750K with an x-ring chain. Not hitting the center stand or the exhaust, and not apparently rubbing the crank case surrounding the sprocket. The clicking doesn't seem to be in a consistent position. Slacked the chain way out and it reduced the clicking but didn't eliminate it. When I'm in 1st gear and rotating the wheel with the clutch in, I get no clicking of any sort. Front and rear sprockets and chain have less than 1500 miles on them. I cleaned and lubed the chain, but it didn't help.

A video of it here:

Any ideas? Does it sound dangerous?

Is the sprocket worn, it looks like it might be..
Your master link is a different color is it the right one.?
You say the chain has miles on it. Rotate slowly by hand and observe if chain goes up and down in the middle,   if it does it has some stretch.
Must be adjusted on tightest part....... If not. Then everyone it goes to the tight spot it tries to pull the wheel forward..may result in a clicking sound

Also a sticky kinked chain link may do that.
