First Bike -1977 750A - Electrical Problem
« on: August 19, 2015, 08:48:03 PM »
Hey all

Just bought a stripped down bike...cafe racer style..headlight, 1 tail light and the starter switch only.  Limited wiring, small Shorai lithium ion battery.  I melted a couple batteries cause the oem regulator keeps failing. Got rid of oem rectifier and regulator and Installed a solid state reg/rectifier from Rick's electronics.  Now when I check the diodes with a multimeter on the stator wires I get readings of around .7 ohms when its off but when I run it the voltage on each wire is less than 1 volt so the battery runs the bike till the battery dies.  Any ideas based on the before and after ohm/voltage readings if its a bad stator or the rotor? Thanks!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

Thanks! This is good. I printed that out and will go through the steps, based on my initial reading of the doc it looks like the stator. I've tried reading though as many of the previous posts as possible, its pretty fun learning something new for sure.  I'll keep you posted.
