Well over here in a warmer part of the world, we just put our clocks forward an hour. I got up and went for my daily 3 mile walk, and laughed like buggery at the crowd of both staff and customers forming outside my local "Supercheap Auto" parts store, where obviously someone had forgotten to tell whoever was supposed to open the store that he/she needed to put her clock forward an hour! Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

And next year the powers-that-be hereabouts have decided to shorten daylight savings, so we'll change our clocks forward in March instead of April, and back next November instead of October.

the chooks don't lay eggs properly in daylight saving - the sun fades the curtains - all sorts of problems emanate from this dastardly plot by politicians and crazy weather forecasters to extract another working hour from the humble working man.....

My buddy told me today that "Daylight Savings Time" was started in order to conserve oil used in lamps and such way back in the day by Ben Franklin.  He wasn't sure if it was Ben Franklin or not.  I have not, as yet, checked out this info, and so cannot validate it.

Another brief decription:
History
Although first instituted in 1915, the idea of daylight time had been batted around for more than a century. Benjamin Franklin suggested the idea more than once in the 1770s while he was a minister to France. But it wasn't until more than a century later that the idea of daylight time was taken seriously.
William Willett, an English writer revived the idea in 1907, and eight years later Germany was the first nation to adopt daylight time. The reason: energy conservation. Britain quickly followed suit and instituted British Summer Time in 1916.
Several areas, including parts of Europe, Canada and the U.S., followed suit during the First World War. In most cases daylight time ended with the armistice.
During the Second World War, a different form of daylight time was reinstated by Britain and clocks were set two hours ahead of GMT during the summer. It was known as Double Summer Time. The time shift didn't end with the summer, as clocks were rolled back to be one hour ahead of GMT through the winter.
The Uniform Time Act, enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1966, established a system of uniform (within each time zone) daylight time throughout most of the U.S. and its possessions, exempting only those states in which the legislatures voted to keep the entire state on standard time.

I remember hearing about Indiana having "parts" of the state observing daylight saving time and the rest of the state on standard time.  I believe that Indiana is split somewhere throught the state with different time zones. Talk about confusing... :-\
