Man Momo - They should give that photographer a raise. That's the first time I've thought a Concours was an attractive bike especially in that color.

I can't bring myself to go the Voyager/Goldwing route yet. I'm only 31 and my girlfriend prefers to follow on my little 350f than riding with me....maybe one day.

I am a big fan of white/pearl bikes but my preference for a concours would be the early silver color. One of my favorite pearl bikes

The Voyager will do a 12 second 1/4 mile and handles pretty good too for a 700 pound bike.

Get a Goldwing and set it up like this...

That way there will be plenty of room for ur girlfriend AND her sister!

I bought a $250 goldwing, spent a few hundred on it (several) and rode it to sturgis and back. I'd get a better one next time but it's an awesome cruiser. 80+ mph all day long. In traffic the fan makes your legs hot but you know you're not melting the pistons. I don't know how all those air cooled bikes handled the traffic and heat in Sturgis. 6-7 miles of bumper to bumper harleys 4 wide.

I rode an '86 concours for a few years. It was very reliable and competent but it put my hands to sleep pretty quickly and would not have worked for me for multi-day, 500 mile jaunts. I much prefer my '74 CB750 with some Shoei saddlebags and a luggage rack. Clearly others have found a combination on the Concours that works for them and have put 10s of thousands of miles on them. I tried some risers but never got comfortable. Your mileage may vary.

what happened to the Yamaha FJ bike? sport tour with fairing and pop off bags? I don't own one but heard they are bulletproof. Me, I have an old Harley in many pieces, a daily bar hopper bobbed '83xj550, and a '78 cb750F that better come together soon. And I'm just about roadworthy with an '84 Yam Venture. Will be a nice change after screaming on the highway with my xj550 (100 mile tank to tank and I'm tired after 2 tanks). The Venture motor screams up nice but I don't think the drivetrain could handle aggressive riding and the bike is a heavy high weighted pig (fine for touring and that's what it's designed for...).

I have this GL1100 ready to roll. It was my everyday bike till I got a GL1500. I got around 140 mi. till I hit reserve.

The 750 was a great touring bike, I'm still pushing the gl1000. I've got $1200 or so in my 79 now and would ride anywhere on it.

Simple!
CB750. Maybe add old Vetter fairing. Avon tires, spare points and plugs.
I have done many, many 1000 mile days, even triple back-to-back 1000 mile days. Today my back would give out at 700 miles, I suspect, but the bike wouldn't break a sweat. About to (re)build the old K2 seat, which would go a long ways toward that 1000 mile day again.

Yeah they get up and march along nicely and all day. The GL is more tourer than the FJ

for sure. I have bar risers and grip puppies to make it a bit more friendly to ride.

Mark, do you find the K2 Seat better than say K3 or K4 ?
I rode a bit this summer on a K4 and it was not comfy..
I used to run a custom seat on my K3.. Not a butt bucket more chopper type look...but great for long days..
How do you rebuild he seat..new aftermarket foam ?

Yup.

In August, I completed a ~4700 mile cross-country trip on my 1991 Honda Nighthawk 750. Averaged 160+ miles per tank with carting over 100lbs worth of luggage. Motorcycle cost me $800, spent maybe $200 in maintenance and sold it in CA quickly for $2000. Can't beat it for the price.

FYI the first day we did 760 miles at ease.

It took me way longer to sell my Magna than expected, but offers started coming in as soon as people started getting their taxes back. Now is the time to sell!

I had about $3,000 in my budget and looked at just about anything I thought might work. I liked the BMWs but couldn't bring myself increase my budget to afford one. I liked the VFRs but they just aren't my style.

I ended up going the Concours route. I just couldn't get over the 7.5 gallon fuel tank, shaft drive and removable hard luggage. It's a 2002 with 19,000 miles. (Silver and black) I only paid $1,000 because the carbs were terrible. I'm going to use some of the leftover money on an engine rebuild for my little CB so I'm pretty happy with the way things came out.

I don't have a picture because I tore it down as soon as I got it home. It has never taken me so long to thoroughly clean a set of carbs even on barn find bikes. Other than that everything has looked good upon inspection except some tight valves and old fluids.

That's a piece of the puzzle I honestly wasn't sure I would ever get too, but my girlfriend and boss are supporting me because they know how long I've wanted to do something like this. I've always just worked my butt off and cashed in my unused vacation days. I took my first ever adult vacation last year.

I guess it really just depends how many miles I can put down in a day and how much time I want to spend on slab rather than enjoying places and country roads. I'll get a better feel for the bike this spring and have planned the trip for September. I plan to be gone just short of two weeks.

I'm very open to ideas. I was thinking of just driving north and seeing where I end up. I thought going around the great lakes would be cool. I've never seen them. Anywhere I go will have to have lots of opportunities for camping. There's no way I can afford two weeks worth of hotels.
