I just ordered a set from bikebandit, the listing only goes back to 1976 - the allballs website showed the same part numbers for both '71 and '76 for the steering bearing kit.

if they're the same as the ones for the cb 500/550K, I've got a new set I'll sell you cheap. pro-flo finally sent my order, three weeks later, after I'd already given up due to an inability to contact or get a response from them. they're all balls and haven't been opened.

I bought mine from "PartsnMore" in Canada. I have the same bike and they went in fine. I haven't finished putting the bike together yet, so I can't say how they perform but the installation was easy.

I got mine from All Balls for my '70 CB750 K1. Worked great, good instructions, nice dust seal too.

Looking For Tapered Steering Bearings For CB77, Will CB350 or Others Work?

          Looking For tapered roller bearings for the steering of my CB77 305 Super Hawk. Anybody know if there is another model (like CB350) that will work? Or at least, where I can get some bearings? I don't remember seeing them listed on ebay, that I know of. Any input appreciated.

I know the inner bearing diameter is the same as a CB350. Which means it would be easy to swap in a CB350 front end. I think the outer is the same also. Would have to measure to be sure. Can do tonite if I remember. If both inner and outer are the same I see no reason one couldn't use the CB350 sized bearings.

                        That would be a big help. I'd sure like to update the old Super Hawk as much as possible without totally changing the bikes style, you know? ??? I'm trying to remember the model of the ones I put on my stalled 305 Scrambler project.  I was using different triple trees, but I seem to remember something from a 70's Suzuki fitting just fine.

I do remember that the thing I did was to measure both the inner and outer diameter, and I remember I went through All Balls Racing to get the tapered bearings.  I still don't remember what bike they wound up coming from-can I claim CRS Syndrome at 26?

                Well, if Kevin's measurements of the 305 and 350 bearings match up, then I'm in business! ;)
         
                I did some checking at the ALL BALLS site, with that link that Ted left and it appears that the bearings that fit the CB350 also fit the 350F, 400F, CB/CL450 K1-K7, CB500T, CB500, CB550K/F, & CB650. So, even if I take a chance and get a set, it'll be used if it fits the Super Hawk or not. Now, I'd like to find out how much this will cost me too! Didn't see any way to determine that on that site. Did I overlook something?  P/N is 22-1011  Thanks for the info guys. ;)

I measured last night and you should be in business. Bearings match up to what you see below. Same part number that you listed earlier for All Balls.

As time goes on, I (like others I'm sure) am learning about which members are more apt to know particular bits of needed info. HELP! Removing tapered bearing race

A month ago I installed tapered bearings on my 350F and I appear to have botched the job somewhat. The bottom bearing rusted and froze up nearly causing me to eat the back of a taxi cab. I installed the bearings on the stem correctly at least from looking at other threads here I did. First the thick washer from the all balls kit and then the seal and then the bearing. I'm not sure what caused the rust but I'd like to get the bottom race out of the head so I can clean the heck out of it and install a new set of bearings. The old races stuck out slightly and I was able to get them out with a hammer and punch. These are so flush and so tight I haven't been able to get any sort of purchase on them. The top bearing and race appear to be fine by the way. Here are some pictures of what the bottom bearings looked like when I removed them and the bottom race that I would like to remove. Any ideas?

Those photos make it look as though you installed the bearings without packing them with grease first. If that's what happened I'm sure you'd get some fast rusting.

You are correct and I won't make that mistake again. Do you think it's necesarry to remove the lower race? Would wire brushing the rust out and packing grease in be sufficient?

Those are precision-ground surfaces for a reason; any sort of defect in the surface can show up in how they feel when you turn the bars. If it were my bike I'd just chalk it up to a learning experience and definitely replace the bearings.

If you can't get purchase on the races from the back side, you're going to have to get creative. I'm trying to think of a way to pull them out from the "front side" and so far I'm not coming up with any (reasonable) solutions.  Drilling is probably out due to the hardness of the race material. Hopefully a member with more experience will chime in on this one.

Definitely a learning experience and fortunately not a terribly expensive one. Replacing the bearings is my only option and yeah I didn't really think brushing out the rust was a fantastic idea but you never know. I hadn't considered drilling into the race, I may have the tools to accomplish this.

clean it and go on with it,these steering necks turn on what a 90 degree axis at the most and have no rpm turning them.so as far as load goes,it aint no big deal.

clean the race and replace the bearing. The race is going to be a nightmare to get out and as long as its not pitted it should be fine
