I just got some from www.partsnmore.com for $40.  I think that was as cheap as I could find.  My bike is a cb750, but i think they have other bike sets as well.

this seems to get old asking the same ?. If anyone out there has a k6 or similar apart or who is getting ready to install the tapered bearings if they could post the numbers that are on the bearings them selvesshould be 4 or 5 digit number.. any help would be appriciated since i have a specialty bearing shop close by but need those numbers... These forums are a  great place for info. keep up the good work guys

you may want to check ebay and try a custom fit.  I know ive seen universal tapered headset bearings on ebay, available in english sizes ( 7/8" 1" 1 1/8" maybe).  i think they were intended for choppers and the harley like, but i can see one of them working if you want to make some collars or something.

might be something to look into...they only ran like $10-$20

Numbers wont help as they are not standard bearings

These are the size you need.

Upper: 26 x 48.5 x 15.2
Lower: 30 x 50 x 14.4

They are an odd size so not sure even your specialty bearing shop will have them.

Hi Rich,

Not saying what Kevin has said is wrong but the size is not the same as what I have.
The bearings have on them H264815 and H305014.
We got sent two sets instead of two bearings, the other set has been in our CR750 for three years now and are fine.

Dave , the numbers I gave Rich will fit all CBs from 200 thru to 1000cc which includes all the SOHC4s.

I think you will find those FAG bearings from dresda have the outer races ground to a smaller OD than original

when i replaced my steering bearings on my cb550 F4, i was surprised at the apparent air gap between the top of the headstock, and under the spanner wrenched nut that hold the stem in place. i couldn't quite tell once it was tightened down, but it appears as if dust could get under that nut and into the bearings. didn't have a dust seal upon disassembly, nor does honda show one up there in microfiche, but it seems vulnerable as is. maybe tightening that nut down against the bearing seals it somehow, but if it rides on the inner race, how is that possible?

does it normally sit like this? seems like it would have to in order for that nut to not drag on the frame, but i couldn't help wondering if something was amiss...

The adjuster nut usually has a fixed on dust cover that dont come seperate

i didn't lose anything in disassembly...was i missing something to begin with?

Quite possible the dust cover is just like  a dished washer that as i remember it  is crimped onto the peg nut so it can come loose and fall of, or be damaged and ripped off cos it rubs. If you can find a parts book to look at you will see the shape, or do what i did for a chop and flaten out a beer can and cut a big washer out of the ally, OK you can use a coke can too if you are teetotal

Hey all,

I just tore my CB550 front end off.  Are the ball bearings good enough for racing or do others update to tapered roller bearings??  Does anyone know what the sizes are?  I was going to mic the stems and bores tonight.  I know PRO-FLO has a good list of various sizes.

HI GREG,

   Tapered bearings are the only way to go.  If you put your bike on the center stand, have someone sit on the very rear of the seat to lift the front wheel off the ground.  Then take hold of the handlebars and gently move them left to right.  Notice the bump like "stop" in the center and the rough feel as the front wheel moves through its turning arc.  There is a much smoother feel with the tapered bearings and no "bump" in the center position.

   They are worth every penny and bit of work that it takes to install them.  ~ ~ ~ jaknight

I thought about replacing my bearings but i do not have any grind or slop or any bump spot in mine. I think they are fine but  ithink I will change them anyways. Metal has come a ways from the 70's and tapers seem to be a hot ticket in most everyones opinion. Kinda like putting in cb900 coils.
