Topic: Need a machinist!

Hey guys - I'm planning my project and making a bunch of decisions right now.

Specifically, I'm trying to decide if I should try to incorporate the stock battery box, or go with a smaller battery and build an underseat battery/motogadget m-unit panel/storage thingy.  (Them there's technical terms!)  I'm also dreaming up a rear fender eliminator.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a solid machinist in my area who can reliably build what I can dream up.  Heck, I'd take a good machinist somewhere else, if he can work from bad sketches and a haphazardly made cardboard model.  Unless someone wants to come out with a welder and teach me how to weld!   

For the record, my area is Chilliwack, BC, Canada, about an hour east of Vancouver.

Frank, 754, lost his shop rather suddenly and I think he occasionally can get some use of a friend's equipment but, it is limited.  Doesn't hurt to ask...

It is not great, but it is better than nothing.  Or use the Google method mentioned.

looks like my lathe is going into my buddies shop soon and will be getting back into on a smaller part time scale. he is, also fully equipped for forming bending and rolling, tig, and migt i can do all but the welding. it weill be around a month.
 wherever you get it done get a cardbord template ready first.

I think I met Ben on eBay, incidentally.  Zookmoto, out of Seattle?  It's a cool eliminator, but I was pretty set on aluminum or steel.  I think theirs is ABS plastic.

I would definitely invest in a small MIG welder. Best thing I ever bought. I got a nice Lincoln Handy MIG. Spent about $350 on the welder that comes with flux core and solid core wire, tank of gas (which isn't necessary if you use flux core) an auto darkening mask and leather welding gloves.

I know you're looking for someone to do work for you, but if you're going to be customizing your bike, welding on your own is pretty convenient. For instance, you might design a battery box but in a month you might feel that you need to redesign it based on new information as you build.

Your point is well made.  Besides, it's way more gratifying to add a new skill set.  I've actually been toying with the idea of playing around with composites and trying to lay it out in carbon fiber...  Time will tell.  First I need to model it all up anyway, so no big rush.
