72 cl100 sohc 1 it's a real pit bike!

 Is it a sohc? Ha! Film at eleven. I have the bike and made the deal but haven't handed over the $ or got the title yet. It appears a few of my dollars are going to go to Thailand unless I find some parts in country.

I did the same......hated to do it.....buttttt.....

To no avail, now I have to tear her back down to change the kicker shaft.......bummer.

It has a new Thai carb. and new Michelins I think the PO's kid rode it with the choke on and drowned it. Mice got into the seat and made a rear exit, the electricals are weak and the turn signals are gone as is the points cover.

I saw a CB 100 pipe on ebay today.
  The guy that owned this bike had the tie down straps over the bike and down to the other side. I can't believe it didn't fall over in the truck.
 The carb screw closest to the air rubber seemed to adjust the idle speed, this one just has the speedo, no tach.

Hey, don't throw it away, finesse the clutch as you lock the throttle. We're bracket racing  so consistency is the only thing that matters. Dial it in based on your level of comfort as long as the bike meets the minimum ET limits.

  True about bracket racing. I'm the crew chief for my daughter, it seems like we won more often when we were the slower car. Except this year, we finished third in our association and led for quite a while.

I got the title tonight and the PO rode off with the cb900c I decided not to build. I was smiling and he got a smoking deal. I kept the V&H header off of it for the cb1124 sohc drag bike.
 
I'm thinking leave the CL100 original and just replace what's missing. A popular theme with me. If it didn't have new tires I'd go with a set of cb400F rims.

 I ordered a points cover for it, a buddy wants to buy it to make a flat tracker. I forgot he's been looking for one for a long time. My whole deal is about putting them back on the street. Anyway my wife says she needs to ride it before I make a decision. She might want it.

 I've got a parts order Que'd up on Ebay. The seller in Thailand says he will combine shipping, I dislike spending my dollars there but it's a Japanese bike so maybe that's silly. Anyway I like this Honda enough to spend a little on it. I took a long look at cb400f wheels today and think they would lace up OK, they would look good but it has new michelins on it already. I do dislike not having a kill button on the bars so a right hand switch swap may be in order.

It's got a huge 12 V Halogen light bulb, they cut the reflector and it got so hot it melted the glass on the inside. Wow po's huh?

 I found an article (guy) that said you can swap the bulbs to 12 v put in a 12 v battery and the rest of the bike will be OK with that. Hmmm. I'm not going there without lots of confirmation.

 Edit, the glass didn't melt, it was a blob of solder that somehow dropped directly into the lens.

     There's a 12 volt bulb in the taillight too, the indicator lights still don't work. during my initial checks, the red/white rectifier wire was wired to ground, the fuse is removed, and the rectifier has been taken apart and ground on, then re-assembled.
 I'm assuming next is checking the dyno for damage. I have a meeting tonight so, until tomorrow.
  Time for a solid state replacement reg/rec.  Are these 3 phase too? can it go 12V since I'm changing all of this?

 The stator checks show red/white is the 6V feed, red to yellow has continuity, nothing to blue except blue to ground. This is a single phase 6volt system so I believe i'm toast for swapping an oregon rec/reg. thailand has most everything I just wish parts were closer.
 
 The Honda service manual is vague as expected. It just says check the 3 wires for continuity which I assume means all 3 should be connected.

 I downloaded the manuaL FROM DO THE TON. that was nice, I'll look there more often.

New plan, I read a cb350 stator will drop right in, the lights are either burned out or 12V already, A resistor should take care of the coil, the horn will be loud until it goes away. Charlies has a 350 rec/reg reasonable and an electronic ignition. I have a new 12 v. battery but it would need a new mount, it's a little bigger than the box.

 Good bad or indifferent, I'll do a report on the cb350/cl100 stator swap. I ordered one last night off of Ebay. I'm assuming it makes more juice but that may depend on the rotor too. I've got a 12 Volt agm battery from a late honda twin It would require the room occupied by the air box and tool tube now. 

 It seems you can bolt on a 125 cylinder and put a 550 piston in it for 144cc that might be fun.

Man the yahoo group format is hard to follow. There's a group for 100/125's and there is a small bit of info if you can ferret it out.

Yeah that Yahoo group is terrible. Interested to know what you discover re: CB350 stator. Also, note that a 125 cylinder may bolt on but you'd need an earlier 125 one - the later (76?) ones were slightly larger and would require you to machine out the cases to make room for the bigger sleeve. Further, I'm pretty sure that it's a CB750 piston that works with this, not 550. <-- Learning all of this with regards to my TL125. Good luck!

I agree on the piston, updated info.
   I think I'll just going to get it running and use it at the drag races for a pit bike. A really cool pit bike.
  The Ebay cb360 stator should have arrived today but in the box was a shield for a cl exhaust. oops, the seller has sent me a message and a pickup tag. I should have it Wednesday..
  My meter checks were through the 3  ring connectors that were part of the rectifier, when I remove the plug and check directly the stator checks good. something happens in the wiring I don't understand yet. The red/white is the neutral safety wire, there is no connector on the wire so I'm not sure how it plugs in.

 I wish there was an SOHC/1.net lol. I'll check out the TL125 bikes. I read there is a honda 200 6 speed single dirt bike engine with the same mounts

The 360 stator is in the 100 case and the cover fits. It is wider by a good margin and the edges hang over the rotor but just slightly. I need to swap to the cl100 rubber plug to seal it up.
 It will need a voltage regulator for sure, I got a part number for a kohler rec/reg that's supposed to work. i believe the 360 has the same wiring style so it should wire back into the harness then the rectifier wires go to the new rec/reg.
 Some have said the 6 volt coil will work but one guy said it will melt on 12V. None of my parts coils are for a single plug except a coil on plug from a chevy truck, I wonder what the ohms are, L0L!.  oh, I have an external coil from a mallory magneto!

you can find a single 12-volt coil at Mike's XS or on EBay.
If not just use one of the SOHC-four types (they use two of them) that has two leads off one coil. Just don't use the other lead.......

The stator wires should all show 0 ohms to each other, each should show infinite ohms to ground.

  I read that if the red/white wire comes loose or is fused and it blows, full volts (as much as 17) go to the bikes lights. Mine's red/white was wired to ground because the rectifier was junk and it you hooked it to POS. it started cooking..  That explains the 12 volt headlight and taillight and the remaining 6 volt bulbs being toast. It may also explain why the bike goes 100 yards and dies. The 6V coil may have been affected too because they (PO's) were riding it as far as it would go then pushing home.
 Sometimes you gotta be Sherlock fricken Holmes to decipher what the PO was doing.

 I got a set of fork seals and gaiters. I decided to take them apart and began by turning the screws in the bottom of the forks. Don't ever do that. One head popped off and one spun without loosening. It turns out they can stay in place and are loctited in place with the good stuff. I finally was able to break off both heads, heated the aluminum cone and unscrewed the broken off threads. I then cut two nice engine cover screws and with a little loctite and hondabond they are back together. It's almost kick 'er over time.
