Forks holding their fluid and the bike starts and runs. it only goes about 200 yards at a time then dies. Same as with the 6 volt system. Spark seems very strong, the gas cap vents almost too well, I adjusted the float level which was high given the angle of the carb.
 Anyway it gradually looses power, I didn't make it into top gear before the bog started. The top end oils well I'm worried maybe the cylinder is seizing for some reason.  Compression test to come.

Ran into the same issue with my SL125 a few weekends ago. It wasn't getting enough fuel into the bowl. I was getting trash from the tank i believe. I could clean the carb, ride for a little bit and it would slowly loose power til i started tweaking the choke lever up and down. Had to ride it back home almost  3/4 of a mile after a test run, leaning over the side of the bike pulling that lever and trying to hang on when it gained full power momentarily. I've got a fuel filter to add this weekend and i'll try it again.

Let me know what you find out on yours. I've had this bike for 22 years or so. The original owner gave it to me just before i left Houston. Unfortunately with all the bikes i maintain and projects, i don't get much time to tinker or ride this one. Its fun to play with though and used to be my tow bike for my dragbike at one point.

  Man that sounds familiar. Thanks for the tip, It's got the repop carb, new fuel line and filter but I haven't addressed the petcock. The PO said it did that to them too, I was hoping it was the toasted electrical system that I replaced.
The tank appears clean but we know how appearances can be.

 Once my car had a new fuel pump with a slug floating around inside, it would suck over the outlet, kill the flow and when the engine died it would fall away from the outlet and start right back up. That took a while to figure out.

It didn't start and I left the key on, I bet it blew the 6V coil.

  I ordered a 12 volt coil for a later 185 single. It has a metal armature, hope it works.  .

 I bought a 12 volt coil for a 185 honda, it came but only has one wire to connect. I assume that means the armature is the ground. I'm guessing that means this coil was intended for use with an electrinic ign. I think I can run switched 12 V to the wire connection and isolate the armature from the frame. Then ground it through the condenser and to the points.

 Sound right?

Don, that 185 coil may be for a CDI? It may be marked CD or CDI on the plastic covering the coil winding. If so, the primary coil resistance (measured between the grounded armature and the single wire) will be very low, and will fry the points in a very, very short time.
Are you sure the original coil was damaged? With 12V applied to a 6V coil, the current increase would also be hard on the points. The simple solution, besides not leaving the key on, would have been to install a ballast resistor inline with the coil input.

 There was wax running out of the coil body, it's dead shorted. There's still a short in the system which sucks to troubleshoot because it's so non stock. And yes it appears it's a coil for a different ignition but I had to start somewhere. This new incorrect coil may be drawing over 15 amps? Probably not but maybe.

I looked up the specs for the coil on my FT500, and it showed a range of .2-.8 ohms. At .8 ohms, the current would be 15 amps, and .2 would be 60 amps! :o :o Even if the coil is in the middle of the range, .5 ohms, it would draw 24 amps.

 The 12 volt coil checked at 5.3 ohms but you sir, are correct, when I ran out of 15 amp fuses I put in a 20 and now I can find a proper coil cause this one went  click,,,shhhhhhhhhh.  Now it too has wax hanging out the bottom. LOL I'm glad it was a $15 cheapie not a real Honda coil.

 Next up, find a 12 volt coil for a single cylinder honda points system.

  I gotta say the 6v one looked like an MSD spark. It ran almost 2 blocks before it shut down and I left the key on.

 I spent $48 for this Cheap coil. It's way better, 3.8 ohms primary side 8,300 through the cap, wire and coil . It makes a spark, doesn't blow a 7.5 amp fuse and has lasted over a minute with the key on. I may be on to something. WooHoo. Testing tomorrow! Hopefully I can make it past the 2 block record run.

 Pics coming soon. I rode it a couple miles today, The new coil was 3.8 ohms so I put a 1.8 ohm resistor in front of it and added a kill switch near the throttle. It got up to 45 mph and still had throttle left. The local authorities were lurking about so I took off through the timber for a spin in the weeds. Everything works even the winkers.
 I'm in a bind for room in the shop so it's good to get it off the lift.

 Tomorrow I'll put the meter on it and check the charging system.

I got sidetracked with a broken frame upright on my dragster. Pics to come.I need to re route the wiring. It's a test mess now I had no confidence it would run so i didn't detail it yet.

 I've neglected this post, the CL100's been going to the drags as a pit bike and is a ball to ride in the pits. It charges well, hasn't melted the coil in a long time and has awesome spark. The gas cap doesn't vent well but I got her up to 50 mph in the back of the pits last week.
 The new ?? repop carb the po put on doesn't need much choke if it's warm at all out. Just makes a lot of kicking. I learned to start with no choke first then maybe a little. I got a stock air filter and it's running on the PO's new Michelin street tires. I may license it, I can see me cruising main st.

I love my CL100.  It's currently down waiting on a new ignition condenser but is otherwise a great bike. Same Candy Yellow color as yours but I left mine at six volts.

 It took me all of 24 hours to free up a stuck piston and get it running after paying $200 for the bike. The carb had to be boiled and the rusty tank took a week to derust and line.

 This bike's previous owner toasted most things electrical, it was charging wild and popped all the 6V. bulbs.  I bought a set of cb sidecovers to get the battery cover so it's not the correct color. I'd love to do a repaint.
 This may get sold in a 4 bike deal, We will see, I need some racing money and my keeper 750's need paint work.
