New 78 CB550 owner in Lewiston Idaho
« on: October 30, 2006, 05:43:59 PM »
Hello everyone,

Just picked up a 78 CB550 last saturday.  Looks to have been left outside a
little to often and will need some work.  Almost wrecked riding home as the
rear tire went flat on me.... :o   According to the speedo it only has 8k
miles on it.   The bike does fire right up and seems to run pretty
good....knock on wood.

Of course I plan to turn it into a cafe style bike over the winter.   I do
not have a ton of experience working with cars or bikes so this will be a
learning process for me.

Looks like a great forum   ;D

here are a couple of pics of the bike.....

Will be adding pics of my progress here......  http://www.flickr.com/photos/doug_goodenough/sets/72157594349938594/

Hi WJ....so far I seem to be pretty good at taking things off the bike.....I think it may be a different story when I try to put things back on   ;D

Hey your bike looks real nice and clean.

Keep the pics coming on your project as well.

Welcome.  One of the nice things about working on a bike is that you have fewer parts to mix up when you're putting them back on. ;)

Thx everyone,

Here is what it looks like now ..........

I don't think I want to remove the engine or the wiring so I plan on cleaning the frame/engine as it sits now and then re-paint with a brush.

Did I mention I am getting a little nervous?   :o

You have a lot to work with and a bit of work. It will be fine. If you carfefully mask, you can spray the frame rather than brush.

Hey that is a good idea....and I doubt a little paint would hurt the wiring harness.   8)
