New to bikes, just bought '77 550K
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:21:57 PM »
Hello all from North Carolina.  I just picked up my first bike/project and for some reason I wanted to tackle the challenges of owning and working on an old bike.  I guess I can blame it on all the instagram photos of cafe and bratstyle bikes.  So I managed to snag an alright deal on a complete, but non-running 77 CB550.  The owner said he hasnt ridden it since 03 so I'm going in to this assuming everything fuel and electrical related will have to be addressed before this thing will fire up.  I've never worked on a bike before but have been pretty active in the automotive world and currently own an '09 335I (only an MHD state 1 tune for now, more to come in the next few months.)

So here's the bike, sitting lonely in the garage waiting for the carb rebuild kit and tune up kit from 4into1 to show up....

The gas tank is empty, but plenty of rust to work out of it over the weekend as well.  Once I get it to run, the plan will be to tear it down to the frame and completely go through the bike from front to back to make sure everything is tip top by spring.
