What the heck's a Yammy Seca?  Is that their answer to the Honda Sabre or are they not in the same class?  Been seeing a few pop up here and there in the online postings.  Nice looking bike - for a Yamaha :P.  V45 and V65 Sabres are a bit pricey - thought these might stand in.

Shame.  Still if the price was right it might be an interesting winter project.  Doubtful though, my garage is full as it is.

Local Honda had 900 Seca fir sale while ago.  It was a sweet looking bike and reviews I coul find from when it was new to the market were good too.

bland is the perfect description.  I put 25K on my 650 mid 80s model Seca with nary a problem other than mediocrity

That is like the worst recommendation that you can give for a bike.

Bland but reliable.
Unreliable but screaming hot - that's fine
expensive and tempermental but fast - no problem
bland but reliable - meh, I'll pass and get this Ducati instead. ::)

Shame, they are very nice looking bikes.

I put 50 000 km's on my 81 special(maxim). Never let me down. Revved  harder than my 75  cb750 and equalled it or a bit more performance wise (IMHO).
Not the best looking bike but I have a soft spot for them.

remember though, mine was a mid 80s- later models could be better

Oh I was just kidding there.  I couldn't sit on a Ducati for more than a few minutes before my sciatic nerve would revolt on me.  Maybe that Multistrada bike they sell, but from what I hear it's not a particularly good bike.

I have a 81 maxim 650. My biggest problem with the maxim/seca is the suspension and carbs. The cv carbs are very touchy. The engine is good and fairly easy to work on. But when it comes to modification there is very little to do with out having to fabricate parts. The cv carbs make it difficult for tuning with filter pods on it. It is a shaft drive although it is reliable makes it difficult to change your suspension to make it more sporty around the corners. The 16 inch rear wheel takes the fun out of corners but there are 18 inch wheels that can be taken from the 750 seca model with minimum effort can be a direct swap. (Different rear brake drum size) The seca models also have dual disk brakes in the front which the maxim do not. They are touchy but with some effort and regular maintenance pretty nice.
