no marking on top piston ring, CB550
« on: October 09, 2015, 07:36:25 AM »
I´m re-installing a single top piston-ring (scraper) and wonder if the orientation matters as the top rings don´t have any marking as the other lower rings.
Any opinion appreciated, thanks!

If yours are like mine (CB650), there's one with a chrome edge and one without. The one with the chrome edge is rounded and orientation doesn't matter. The one without has a specifically shaped edge and orientation does matter. The marking for this one goes on top. It may be hard as #$%* to see, so wipe it off and use a magnifying glass if you have to.

Thanks, yes, the 2nd ring has clear orientation marks on all four.

the top ring has a slight lip on the outer edge.

i read from diagrams that the lip should be facing upwards like this:

Even though the other cylinder rings on 3 & 4, which i never touched, is facing with lip down. I'm assuming itts best to trust what worked previously, as i didnt burn a large amount of oil
