I wonder how that support wheel does going down the road?  I would be concerned that it could have the shopping cart effect.

They are very stable, I have a friend that has one. They also make one with 2 wheels for higher load capacity.

Can you post up a pic of your buddies crib?  Would love to see it.  Any tips for desert living?

Don't do it. There are not enough water resources to support 1/4 of the population that resides in those places.

What about a couple months a year just to get out of the snow?

Only if you bring in the water you plan on using is what I would say.

That too. Like Texas there are only three months out of the year the desert is remotely habitable to normal humans.

Here is our rig, 1995 Alpenlite 29RKS, we paid under 5K for it and are very happy with it. Its aluminum and fiberglass with a full wall super-slide in the living area, and is rated for full time living and 4 seasons.

Wow that is super nice!  $5k is a great deal.  I am currently watching videos on affordable housing, and I got tell you I must have been clueless as to what affordable housing means.

What I have found it means is different things for different people depending on where you want to live.  So for someone like me who wants a more minimalist lifestyle a $5k trailer is very affordable, but a $25 to $40k Tiny house not so much.

They need to come up with a different designations like affordable housing for low to moderate income.  Affordable urban housing in major metros.

The county keeps raising my Dad's taxes to the point they are forcing him to sell and get a 5th wheel or park model.

Is it me or have things gotten out of control?  How many people can get away with only spending 30% of their income on housing?  Many low to moderate income people spend up to 50%.

We are on our way to a 2 tier system if something is not done.

Sorry Dukie, you got that wrong.  Only 3 months in Central Texas are miserably hot (June July Aug) the rest of the year is wonderful.  And no snow!

yeah, I tend to agree with much of that sentiment.

There is a way to fight the county taxes system, it's called annoying the ever-loving-#$%* out of the auditor, and use their own system of evaluation against their justifications.
Watched my old man do it to the thurston county dude this last year.

Also, agriculture.  If you have a large enough lot to qualify.

Yea I hear ya, I have to go to the assessor and get my tax bill straightened out. They tell me my little mobile is worth 15K, but I could NEVER get that for it. I paid 6K and have sunk a bit into it. New windows, new stick built storage/work shed, landscaping, built a new fence, and this place was a mess when I bought it. It was empty for a few years and the guy that lived in it NEVER cleaned anything. Being retired funds are limited and my space rent and utilities are pretty cheap and its close to the Mom's....that's why we are here. When they are gone we will retire completely and move to NE Oregon and winter for 4 or 5 months in the 5th in Desert Hot Springs at the RV Resort we belong to so we can spend time with ALL the grandkids.  ;D

Do you RV full time?  Also I am super jealous.  When I visited Phoenix the first thing I did was rent a car and drive through flagstaff right to the grand canyon.  I love the south west.  Not sure I can handle the summer time sizzle so I would need a camper up north too.

Better post up those pics and keep em' coming.

Haha, I wish.

We went West twice, both times in 2004 Grand Cherokee and both times the wife and kids went ahead week early and I flew to Denver to meet them.  In 2007 we did Utah, Yellowstone and such up North and in 2013 we did Arizona and Grand Canyon - with hike down and up - and return via Memphis and the South.

That is amazing!  It is good to hear that you are doing this as I believe the experience of seeing the big wide open spaces and the beauty of nature stays with kids for a lifetime.  They will remember that trip years latter and be better for it.

Why no to Dallas?  I like Austin as I hear it is a medium city with lots of very smart young people.

Dalls is a no cuz it's a huge city with bad traffic and high crime. We call it the "Armpit of Texas"!

Yes, Austin is great, college town [University of Texas] laid back, and a lot of good live music.

Interesting as previously mention about "dry heat".  Spent a couple of months of so called better dry heat around 40c to 45c plus everyday and all I can say is avoid it. At the end of the day it was a race to get back to the pub because who ever had the 1st shower got a  minute or so of cold water that was in the plumbing all day to cool down before the hot smelly bore water arrived which wouldn't even make soap lather up.  sorry to hi jack. should be in the pissed off section.

After talking to a few people at my tiny house meetup I am wondering if the Tiny House thing is just trendy living for hipsters?  If it is economics and simple living a trailer or RV would be much better.

Agree, a mobile trailer or RV would make more sense and most likely be less expensive.
It sure seems trendy to me and stupid( people are paying an astronomical price per square foot to live in an overgrown closet).  Just saying like I see it..Larry
