Slow n' steady...
Got my valve cover back today from Nils and it of course looks great! Did what I should have done while I was waiting for it and scrubbed up all the rockers and shafts, treated them to a light coating of oil and reassembled. Now just need to get my intake manifold up to Hondaman so he can finish up working on my head and I can get this motor sealed back up.

No, that's the one that the starter wire and the alternator wire pass through between the starter cover and the crankcase.

Got the cylinders back from the machine shop yesterday and had some time to play with things tonight. Pistons are all in (without a ring compressor!) and it's a bit closer to being buttoned up. Just need my head and I'm ready to get it topped off.

I am a little concerned about the tolerance of the piston skirt to the cylinder wall, it is TIGHT. About 0.04mm. I don't really want to start rotating the crank around until I have the head on there to keep the cylinders in place since I'm not too keen on getting the pistons back in the bores again so I guess I'll wait before giving it a few rotations. Thoughts?

Do you have a total of .004, or .004 on one side with the piston in place?

.04 mm measured with calipers. Where have you seen that they are forged? Everything I have seen has them as cast and machined, and it makes sense with the price (they are cheap).

Update finally!

After a busy summer, Hondaman and the machine shop finished up with my head and I was able to make some real progress with reassembly this weekend. I was short a locating pipe between the cylinder and head so I had to wait for a small care package to arrive...

All buttoned up for now, will play with the adjusting the cam followers another day. And one of these days I'll finish up the polish work on the clutch cover so that I can reassemble that for good.

On a side note, the CB got a new garage mate!

Ridge Reamer did the bore, decked the head and cut the valve seats, Hondaman presided over the matter and reassembled the head for me.

Anyone know of a place that does small batches of zinc plating? I've got a handful of screws etc that need a refresh that I can't find replacements for anywhere..

Larry if you strike out locally drop them in a box to me. My local guy does good work if I prep it well with the vapor blaster prior, perfectly serviceable for a SOHC. A small batch is something silly like $20, and it's a 10 minute ride to drop them off along with a prepaid box back to you, no big thing. Happy to do that for you.
