No, don't try to start it again, you've got a problem mate. I presume (but don't know?) that you took the covers off for #3 and 4, and they were opening and closing? If so, yep, you've busted your cam. It's rare, but it's happened here before.

Hopefully you haven't bent any valves, but you'll need to pull the engine out and remove the cam cover to see what's going on in there. Don't get too jaded, it might be as simple as replacing the cam.

I did have an oil starvation issue (silicon sealant) in my K1 in 1981, it ruined the cam, rockers, cam towers, and scored the cylinders so I had to bore it out and fit oversize pistons, but that really wasn't a huge job. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey guys so finally had some time to work on bike. I have been battling some sort of sinus-nasal infection from hell for the last week, but just got some energy to pull motor out and investigate. Looks like cam broke as Terry said. I think one oil jet must have gotten plugged somehow that fed cam tower where it clamps down. How would I figure out how to check if I have any bent valves? I put a 2 foot level across all valves they all look to be touching except for #2 exhaust, just a hair away from level. I guess I should compression test also? Looks like minimum im going to need is a cam And complete tower for one side, I will further inspect the rockers, but they seemed all lubed, cheers!

I had this same break happen in a fresh rebuild last year, happened while I was ridding. It was going along fine, then there was a weird noise and the bike was only running on 2 cylinders after that. It turned out that I over torqued one of the 4 cam tower bolts and it stripped the threads in the head. I had to replace one valve, the camshaft and one of the cam towers.

Yeah mate, that looks like a typical oil starvation issue, the way that the bearings and cam lobes are scorched. Make sure you unblock that oilway so it doesn't do it again! And yep, do a compression check to see if you've damaged your valves. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Just picked up some replacement parts. Drained all oil and put fresh oil in everything, poured some down tappet drains, some down tunnel where cam chain is, filled tank, hand pumped it with kick start, then connected starter to battery and nothing, doesn't even show pressure building on the gauge. I have cam towers off and tensioner loosened up, but I thing I should still get oil at head no? Also when I pull drain plug at engine it was dry. Meanwhile before I checked pulled plug and there was lots of oil there before, I just captured it in a bottle and put it back down again. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Ok guys false alarm, after coming inside and reading a bunch of more on the forum found some old articles, I went back into garage and gave it some more bursts with the starter and oil finally came to head! The side that was starved for oil tool about an extra second and it also came out, oil was dark I guess from the metal fine shavings. U can't even feel them on your fingers it's like a mist in the oil. I noticed that that jet does not shoot as far as jet on 3-4 still shoots out 5-6 feet easy, the jet for 3-4 shoots an extra foot for sure. Should I keep flushing this out until they are close? Once im satisfied, gonna pull head to take care of the exhaust valve that's not closing on #2. Thanks in advance.

G'day mate, I don't think it matters, as long as a healthy supply of oil is coming up, that's the main thing. Well done on sorting it so quickly and if you end up with any left over K0 parts in good condition, let me know? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Little update while I'm sitting in my doctors office. Yesterday was a good day, flushed oil through the little jets, until
l i got good flow from both. Then took head off, removed bent valve, no damage to piston. Lapped new valve and put in new head gasket. By looks of pictures cyl 1-2 didn't run very long. Checked compression got around 135psi across all 4. Mounted cam towers without cams to check that oil is coming out of every hole!! Then mounted cam, timed, and adjusted valves. My buddy passed by after work and we got engine in frame. In the next couple of days I should have her back making some noise!! Thanks guys.

I hate to bring this up now that you've got the engine back in the frame mate, but the pic of your cam chain adjuster rubber roller doesn't look good? I'm wondering if it's one of those CB750 supply items that fall apart? My concern is that if it's shedding rubber into your oil, that might be what blocked your oil jet, and could well do it again? I'm happy to stand corrected, but if it is..........  ???

Hey guys a little more progress today, got oil into her and got it flowing to top end. I was turning engine over and it stopped. Then just click from silenoid. I tried jumping with screwdriver across poles and starter engaged. Could something failed? I was checking wiring and also found a loose ground wire looks like, but I can't find its partner. Gonna check wiring diagrams to see what gives....
