Topic: 550 triple on 750

Can you run a 550 triple and forks on a 750?

because I dont have a 750 triple on hand but have two 550 triples and it looks pretty much the same. by hte wa yif this helps the 750 is a 73 and I  also want to put comstar wheels on it because that is what I have.I have also read on the forum that there are problems mounting those wheels anywayThe front wheel is 100/90/19.HOpe some one can help.

I seem to recall the 500/550 forks being a tad shorter and thinner.

That being the case I would say they make a bad choice for the 750 weight wise and would be bound to affect stability / handling.

The comstars can be made to fit on a K frame but its a matter of spacing and brake disc. The comstars have a 5 hole brake disc mount while the spoked have a 6 hole rotor mount.

The offset on the rotors are different between the two as well.

I got around that with my Frankenbike project (which uses a K frame) by using the complete front end off of an F model 750

Yokes (trees) used as a pair will be ok as the forks are the same diameter, not sure aboout the rake--thats why i said a pair. Comstars only if you take a complete front end as rotors are different fitting and thickness and therefore calipers mounted different etc, etc

I believe the 550 forks are a little shorter, so it may lower the front end a bit, haven't heard about them being thinner, they are the same OD, 35mm. But the 550 forks won't be sprung or damped for the heavier 750, so your suspension response won't be the same either.
