VHT Flameproof Paint

I purchased this along with VHT SP100 Primer and Clear for the exhaust on my Harley Davidson. I followed the directions exactly, taking precautions to do everything just as the VHT directions so I wouldn't have to do this over. I completely sanded the parts down, washed the parts in a solvent to clean them, painted them as the directions (multiple coats in the ample time), and baking them on the vehicle. Unfortunately, the paint began to peel off of the header about 5 minutes into the baking process. Then when I took the bike out and rode it, the peeling got much much worse

 I'm thoroughly disappointed in this product, as it failed at about 500 degrees, despite being rated for four times as much..... I wish I could get in touch with someone at the company

What solvent did you clean them with. Some solvents leave a film and if that film was on when you painted it would keep the paint from being able to adhere to the pipes.

Weird, I did my 4 header pipes on the CB with the same stuff, no primer or clear. Just scuffed with 150, cleaned with acetone, then sprayed light coats until they were coated well. Let them dry over night then put them on and heat cycled loosely according to directions and it's been fine for a few months. I've gotten gas on them and melted a mechanics glove on one and they have held up. How long did you let the primer dry?

Welcome to the forum. I've seen ladies driving pink jeeps, so not sure why the push back. Hope you find the solution though.

i find the vht stuff great  ,but only the 1350 stuff not the 1200 . also no primer and no clear , just the vht on scuffed clean piping . only thing is , if you get the pipes white hot (turbo 400/4) then the black changes to white .

I've had some luck with plasti-kote Hi-Temp paint, but I don't know yet how well it will hold up over time. It has to be applied very thin, and needs to be cured within 8 hours. When it air dries, it has a very sooty, almost fuzzy appearance, and is very easy to damage when handling it. After it is cured, it still looks sooty, but it wipes off and leaves a satin look.

Hi Shaz, looks like you've spent good money on that bike, ceramic coat the pipes and you'll never have any problems... ;)
