Another New guy from Nova Scotia
« on: November 06, 2006, 04:08:22 PM »
Hey all,

Relatively new to this board, just decided to post a "newbie" notice.  Already gained a fair bit of info lurking around on here, so I've found this is a great forum.

I'm working on a '78 CB550 project which (surprise, surprise...) is going to become a cafe-themed bike.  Maybe 544cc and I can eventually link up !

I just got the bike, so the picture below shows its condition at the moment.  Looking forward to following the many discussions on here and if my project works out I'll post up pics of the finished bike someday.

Bienvenue, ami!  That's all the French I got, just in case you're a F.C.  Anyway, Welcome, friend!

C'est très bien, merci!  My wife is F.C. and we both speak French/English, so thanks for the welcome.

Welcome, Mr. Sonic.  Your bike looks like a good starting point for a project.  Did id run/ride before yoo started tearing it down?

Hey Burma, sorry for delayed response, I was away for a day or two.

Bike was a reasonable runner, although the boots between the carb and the airbox thing were cracked pretty badly, so it was not running well.  I did ride it home and went for a good spin on the way and the suspension, brakes clutch and gears all semed to feel really good, so no hopefully no deep engine work required.   With luck, I can be mobile again for next season...

Later, JMR

Greetings to a fellow Blue Noser!  ;D
Looks like a solid base for a project, did you pick it up locally?  We'll have to meet up sometime, let me know if you ever need a second set of hands or anything. It'll be nice to know someone locally to throw ideas around with as it sounds like we've got pretty similair projects in the works.

ps- Your bike looks pretty complete but if you need any pieces Toads has a few junked 550s.

I have two 550s that I've restored/cafed and they were easily the most enjoyable projects I've done, these bikes reward your efforts. I've designed a few custom parts that I've machined for my bikes . Let me know if you're interested and I'll e-mail pictures and descriptions.
Anyway, enjoy the project!
