choiche of the pinion
« on: January 11, 2016, 12:29:18 AM »
Hi guys.
My mechanic is restoring a CB 750 K1 I bought. I have to change completly final chain and toothed wheels.
He advices me to use a 17 teeth pinion instead of 18. (sprocket is 48 teeth).
Is him right ? thanks for your advices

17:48 will give better acceleration than 18:48 . I had that on my CB750 K6 back in the 80's to be sure that it should be stronger when speeding on 5:th gear. Worked well during long touring too.

I changed back to 18:48 last year when it screamed too much :-) My bike has good power from low and up anyway.

For smooth riding use 18:48. Red light riding with a loud 4:1 and pretty chicks...use 17:48 :)

I run 17:48 and I am quite happy with the combo.  The 18:48 is said to be better for long distance touring, some people even swap 17 to 18 and vice versa as needed.
