That's what I thought when I pulled it out too, I pulled it out and immediately looked for my HondaBond to make sure I didn't do something stupid and put the cap in there haha.. but it is really rubbery and semi translucent..

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

Dude! Now you're screwed... that cap is supposed to be in there  ::) Stinking amateur wannabe motor builders! You could screw up a 2-car funeral or tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet. Start over please and put that back where it belongs, cemented in place with Permatex.

 ;D ;D ;D I do what I can!

but... that isnt supposed to be in the motor at all.. is it? I have looked at 3.2 million engine schematics and forum threads and can not find a mention of this thing.

The only thing I can think of is maybe it is a cap used to protect threads when vapor blasting?

It's from the uber-rare Sandcast 550 cases, made only 1 day in the month of April, and only 19 documented cases had it. You've just devalued that bike immensely. Please erase that post, put it back, and Trey pretend like it never came out. We won't tell when you go to sell it  ;)

No, doesn't belong, and no, it's not from Vapor Blasting either.

Mystery solved, it was a thread/hole protector from the vapor blasting process.

I might have blown it in farther down into the hole with my air compressor, but either way I should have chased the threads and found it earlier.

All good, mystery solved  ;D

Thanks Ron!  I am about to put your valve cover to work once I need to degree the cam.  I will engrave "Restoration Ron's Good Karma Cam Cover" on it and over it up to other 550 owners once it is milled out =)

thanks again!

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, just make sure those valve reliefs are big enough for the 126-20. They don't appear to be now.

Just got some 520 chain conversion sprockets ordered from Sprocket Specialists

Im thinking this chain is too pretty not to buy  :P  Anyone have experience with the lightweight '3D' 520GP chain from EK?

Ask bwaller, Brent, what he uses on his race bike, I think he uses the 520.  It is a almost elegant design.  What did the sprocket sets cost you?
Just curious if the 520 ends up being more expensive than  the 530 chain and sprocket set.
But, I imagine this 520GP chain costs more than a standard 520 chain would cost.

Does 4 into 1 carry EK or was it DSS I looked at pricing some things the other day.

South Sound Honda in WA state in Olympia are has good prices if ordering Genuine Honda.  Some of the CX and GL owners on that forum have reported very good prices and shipping charges have been very reasonable as well, even on small orders.  They found their discount to be either the best or close to the best and the shipping made up for it.

Worth taking a look at....

So, pack a few bologna sandwiches for work instead of going out to eat if you normally would...or skip the Starbucks or coffee shop and you will soon have saved the amount you spent extra on that chain...

Or, buy a container of chocolate whey protein and have a 20g protein shake instead of lunch and you are likely to easily shave a few pounds of weight over the course of a month or two at the most...every pound you trim off your body will be that much less on the bike, which if racing pays dividends on the track.  Easier to trim 5-10 pounds off your body than it is your bike.

Your spouse or girlfriend is likely to hate you for how easily you can drop weight...at least that will be true until you hit your 50s and higher when changes in your body start making it harder to lose weight than it " used to be"...

The sprockets (front and rear) ended up being $120 shipped to my door after I spent up to have it anodized/machine polished (around the speed hole lips).

The chain retails around $350 but I found a pretty decent price on amazon (the last one available through the EK store) and with a gift card I had laying around I think I ended up paying another $130 out of pocket... still a damn expensive chain, but there should be significant weight savings between the steel stock sprocket and chain vs this setup, additionally the nickle plating/polishing on this chain is beautiful.

I'll do a weight comparison of the two setups sode by side and see how many pounds I saved for ~$250  :o ;D

Plenty of nice 520 chains for well under $100. I'm using a DID520vx2 that is high tensile, x ring and cost about $70.
